Scheduling Safety School Interviews Late?

Are you scheduling your safety school interviews early or late in the cycle? On the one hand, if you get accepted at a school on October 15th, then you don't have to travel and interview there and leave an interview spot for another applicant. On the other hand, you might want to interview early as a "practice" interview, plus you might be hurting your chances by interviewing in November/December? What does everyone think?

idk, i didn't apply to any or pay the application fee to any school to use it as a practice interview. the best way for me to appreciate my fellow applicant is to work as hard as possible, get everything done as quickly as i can, take my time to make the right decisions. i will schedule every interview in the earliest convenient time possible. i believe i have enough interview experience, but i'll take special note of my conversation with doctors and scientist in the upcoming weeks and try to learn something out of it

I don't think anyone applies to schools just for practice; I think if someone applied to a school, they'd genuinely go there if accepted. That said, we obviously care about certain schools more than others. In that case, I'd definitely try and get your "safety" (for lack of a better term) interviews out of the way earlier on so you can get used to the interview environment. The schools I got into were at four our of my last five interviews, while I didn't get in at all to the first three places I interviewed even though they were probably "lower-ranked." Despite being a naturally confident person, I definitely was a little jittery early on, but after my first few interviews I really became comfortable; I think my confidence and "comfortableness"--just looking like I actually belonged there at an interview--definitely left a positive impression on my interviews at the later schools.

Therefore, given the chance, schedule those interviews early.
