Can someone give me a low down on what is considered positive and negative for a schilling test?

Let me see if I can get this, if it's negative that means the B12 absorption is fine I assume. If it comes back positive there is something going on with IF, or the ileum.

It's basically to find out the cause of B12 deficiency.

1st step I think is to see if there is a deficiency by giving B12 and seeing the amount in the urine. If there is, then you give IF and B12 to see if the deficiency is due to pernicious anemia or some sort of malabsorption problem. If you still see a deficiency, then think malabsorption (of whatever etiology, then you go and look for that). If you don't, then it's pernicious anemia (or lack/deficiency of intrinsic factor production). I think that's pretty much what we need to know.
