I know how much people on SDN hate on Kaplan MCAT courses by saying how much of a waste of time it is. But I was offered a free course ($2000+ value) because of a scholarship program. Should I do it? Any advice appreciated?

Many people on SDN also are bumbling *****s who believe that there is one or two correct ways to study for the MCAT with correct materials to use and anything else would be a waste of your time. You should realize that people study in different ways and while TPR might be great for one person, it could be completely useless for someone else. You need to find what works for you, not what works for other people on here. For the record, I didn't take a course but I used Kaplan materials (plus AAMC stuff) to prep for my MCAT.

Why would anyone turn down free stuff?! :wow::wow::wow: Take it and run! If you don't like it, you don't have to use it.

Woah I thought I was lucky Cuz I got the half off from Kaplan! Definitely do it! It's about how you use the many resources they provide not simply attending the class. There are multiple ways to use Kaplan for many different learning styles so you honestly can't go wrong just figure out how you will use it for you. I'm currently taking the course. Then supplement with anything you think Kaplan is lacking in.

I know I'm late to the game on this, but honestly? Use every resource you can get your hands on, especially if it's free!

When I was prepping, I didn't think Kaplan was complete enough to drop $2k+ on a course (nor did I have $2k+ to spend. If I had decided to pay that much for a course, I wouldn't have been able to afford any other prep materials at all, and would have missed out on AAMC's Section Banks and a couple of practice exams I bought from elsewhere.

Do keep an eye on the Official Guide MCAT outline... If there's anything you don't get from your course, or feel you don't completely understand, or they are dead-set on an approach to a subject that doesn't work for you, supplement! Good supplements include books from other companies and of course Khan Academy. And hopefully not having to pay for the course itself frees up some funds so you can afford those supplementary materials, or for AAMC practice materials.

Are they still doing this scholarship program? What did you have to do to qualify?

TAKE IT. I am enrolled in the Kaplan Course. They have tons of questions for content review. The MCAT Channel is great, and you also get the AAMC Stuff!!!!! Tons of videos, passage based questions. The only bad thing about Kaplan is that their FLs lack Data reasoning questions. But they're good to sharpen content.
