I realize this is sort of a broad question, but how do most need or merit-based scholarships work time-wise? Do most schools begin processing your info right after they accept you and send something over when they are done? Or in order to be considered for any scholarships would I need to give a deposit to each school that accepts me before they would send me anything? I had assumed I would be receiving any info about scholarships in April but I have seen some students mention they already heard from schools saying they were getting X amount, so I'm clearly misinformed. My acceptances are fairly recent and only one has asked me for additional financial info so I assume that one is working on it but for any others I'm curious if I would need to just burn deposits in order to see if I would get any scholarships.

As far as I am aware, the majority of schools send full financial packages (merit and need-based aid) at the same time. This typically occurs in the March-April timeframe. As is everything in this process, it is quite school dependent and exact timeline varies. You can reach out to the schools financial offices you’ve been accepted to and ask about their respective timeline (that’s what I did).

Edit: you do not need to pay a deposit to receive a scholarship
