How do dental school scholarships work? Do the schools give them out fairly often? Are they only for people who need financial aid? When would you find out if you were offered a scholarship?
As of right now I'd only consider an in-state school (Texas). They're just so much cheaper in-state than any other school out-of-state. Only a scholarship could change my mind so I just want to know what the chances would be.

Hey, if you feel comfy with interviews, your GPA and DAT scores will let you get accepted to all of your Texas school ... so there wouldn't be a need for a scholarship ...or you may even get them at your state schools.
Good luck and apply early in the game.

most schools give out a small number of purely merit scholarships, most of which don't significantly offset the total cost of attending a dental school. however, i think a very small number of people get substantial scholarships (20-100k), but those are few and far between. the most famous of which is the UPenn dean's scholarship. i received some form of merit scholarship at half the schools i was accepted to.

but it's hard to argue with texas in-state tuition. i would think it is very difficult to get a big enough scholarship to offset that.

maybe i'll see you at UTHSCSA next year 😛
