Scholarships

Word of caution, don't go off scholarship money and tuition alone. DMU has one of the cheapest tuitions but only gives a max of 4000 in scholarship money. New York on the other hand will give quite a lot in scholarship money, but cost of living is a lot more than Des Moines. Just comparing to say to look at all of your costs and not just tuition and scholarship. This is what I have heard,

DMU max 4000
Arizona does not give scholarships
New York and Ohio give fairly large scholarships

That's about all I know. Tuition can be found on their school websites.

You'll have to take out student loans. You will make the money back. Don't be concerned about scholarships and low tuition.

Arizona does not give scholarships

Though AZPod doesn't have nearly the scholarship capability of other podiatry schools (yet!), it is a common misconception that 1st year students do not receive scholarships. Here is some information I got from our admissions chair to help clear things up!...

We can award 3 students a $5000/year scholarship that is renewable each year. The award is based on undergrad grades and MCAT, and renewal of the scholarship requires the student to remain in good standing. AZPod doesn’t have any additional incoming student scholarships because we are a newer program and don’t yet have practicing alumni, because the 1st class to graduate was in 2008 and are just now completing residency. However, we are trying to build additional scholarship funds through CME events meaning that any money received above the cost of the event is put toward student scholarships.

FYI, AZPod does have more scholarships available for 3rd and 4th year students. It's just those first 2 years that are lacking due to the above-stated reasons. 🙂

That's good to know, it must have changed. I called last year and they told me there were none offered for incoming students. I'm glad they are getting that going.

NY offers a lot of scholarship money, about 1.5 million in the last 3 years has been given out. Top scholarship now I think is $30,000 coming in, over 4 years, so 7500 a year if you keep a 3.2 GPA. A lot of other scholarships are available due to grades, etc in 2nd - 4th years.

Third and fourth year, APMSA gives scholarships to all schools.

Hey, I just made the decision to switch to podiatry!
Im currently shadowing a Podiatrist, but had a few questions that I think you guys can answer.
Currently, im not doing the best financially. I am going to probably base my decision of which school to attend based on tuition costs.
Which schools have the lowest tuition?
and which schools do you guys think I will be able to get the most scholarships?

3.9 gpa
24 MCAT
I am a black male
Several research and other EC's.
(I was pre-med, but to make a long story short, had to visit a Podiatrist, liked what I saw, did some research, and made the switch).
Part time employment throughout the first 2 years of college.

Yes, I am sure you will get scholarship monies! 🙂

I concur with the above 👍

Even though I attend Scholl I know for sure that NYCPM awards students with scholarships that are for the entire 4 years of school (as long as you maintain a certain gpa). For instance when I applied and was accepted at NYCPM I received a 12K scholarship. Therefore that would have been $3k off tuition per year I was in school.

At Scholl they award only first year scholarships ranging from 3k all the way up to half-tution (which is about $15-16K). Half tuition scholarships are given to exceptional incoming students. Personally, with your gpa and MCAT score I definitely think you would be in the running for a half tuition scholarship as long as you applied really early in the next application cycle.

But like sorham stated above, one must consider tuition costs AND costs of living in order to determine which school would be the cheapest overall.

What are the requirements to get scholarships? I applied to NY.
