I am seeking some inspiration. I recently found out that I am pregnant. Dispite all the negative feed back I am recieveing from the people around me, I have decided not to give up my vision of a career in the health care field. I origionally wanted to go to podiatry school, but given the hours and stress, I don't think I could fair the weather alone. I have decided to go to ultrasound school after my bachelors degree. Does anyone out there know someone who has been in my shoes? Any advice?

Congrats on the pregnancy! HOW exciting!

I know of women who went to med school with newborns or had children while in med school. Its all about the support system.

If you have the support system around you it can be done. Do you have family/relatives/friends close by you can depend on? Or maybe applying to a family friendly school? Or you could always put it off a few years until your child is a little old. Many non-trads are well into their 30's or 40's before applying. A few non-trads that I know actually had their children before applying to medical school.

Pick up the book "A Not Entirely Benign Procedure" by Perri Klass. She had a baby while in med school at harvard and wrote a book about here med school experience.

"The Intern Blues" also has 'Amy' who had a baby just before her internship, and she speaks a lot about what it's like to be an intern with a baby. Although this was in 1985/1986, but some of it might be relevant??!!

I think a baby>school. But that maybe just me, Im old fashioned that way.

The OP actually said she wanted to go to Podiatry school not medical school. I don't know much about podiatry school but I'm guessing it's way easier since all you have to learn about is feet. Plenty of people have babies in med school although I don't know how they do it!

Congratulations

Yes it can be done!! I'm in my forth year. I went part time for the first two just to test the waters. I'm tired, but most students are anyway.

Good luck

Agreed.

In my class we had students (male and female) who had young children coming into med school. We had a couple of students who had children while in school. Everyone survived both the newborn and school.
