I'm enrolled in 17 units for the quarter, in addition to taking an MCAT course. I am considering dropping one class (statistics) because I'm kind of overwhelmed. Would it be so horrible to only take 12 units during my MCAT quarter? I've noticed that others in my MCAT class are only taking that many units this quarter, but, on the other hand, I don't want med schools to look down upon me for doing so.

Nope. It won't be so horrible to drop the class. Jut focus on the MCAT this semester and do really well, that's all that matters. If you're doing any research on campus or even off, see if you can get credit for that. It might be an easy way to beef up your hours.

I think the ADCOMs probably couldn't care less how many units you are taking this quarter. Or any quarter for that matter. As long as you meet the undergraduate course requirements for admission to the school, it shouldn't be a big deal to only take 12 units. I took 12 units for the past 3 quarters at my school, and got all the requirements done for MS, as well as my major requirements. So drop the course and study for the MCAT. It is way more important than how many credits you are taking.

actually, some schools explicitly state in the msar that they take into account course loads. that being said, i am sure that they will also take into account the quarter before you take the mcat. the mcat is way more important than taking an additional 5 units. some students take even less than 12 units.
