I just got a call from Dr. Jeffers this morning, and was accepted to UDM. Deposit is due on Thursday, and orientation is in 5 days. However, I am not sure if I should accept it. I've already re-applied to multiple school for the 2014 cycle, and am scheduled to retake the DAT in 2 weeks. UDM not located in the best of areas, however it is a guaranteed spot and I've heard great things about their clinical experience. I would hate to waste a year, especially since I graduated from undergrad in 3 years. But it wasn't my first choice. I'd love to get some pro/con feedback to help me decide! Thanks in advance!

I would take that acceptance bro.

Imagine the regret that would ensue if 2013/14 cycle was not as nice to you. Consider that hundreds of people would be dying for that seat. I would take that acceptance if I was in your situation.

Congrats! And if I were you, I would SO take the seat right away.

Since you never know how the applicant pools are every year, and it changes every year, you don't want to take that risk..

Damn that's short notice. If you can find a place to live in Detroit I would go. Think about it...you start in 5 days. If you fail to get in this current cycle, that's at least 2 years behind you would be.

What are your stats and where/how many schools did you apply to this year?

Congrats on the acceptance! I'd take it if I were you. Your already ahead. Go for it

I'd take it in a heartbeat.

That's a really easy choice for me. I would definitely take the spot and never look back. Yes, you may have already spent money on fees, but you have no idea what will happen this cycle. Even if you do get in this cycle, you have the chance to become a dentist one year early. Go to UDM, I've only heard great things about the school.

I for sure would take that spot. Waaayyyy to risky not to. Even if you get in this cycle, that is a year of income you miss.

Go! That would be the call of a lifetime!

This is an issue for you and your family, not us. Why did you apply there to begin with if you weren't going to go if you got accepted? If you can afford it, I'd get up there.

Bird at hand bro/sis. Make sure to educate those patients during clinicals.😉

"If you're invited to the party, go"

Another year of applications is one year lost of a dentist's salary. Assume the worst that you're losing said year on the back end of your experienced, lucrative career. There is no need to wait.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.. I have decided to go for it!
UDM is a great school and, you guys are right, it would be foolish of me to waste an entire year.
I think I was just in panic mode yesterday 😉

I'm so glad you've decided on the right choice and will be starting dental school in 5 days. UDM is a great school and I'm sure you're going to get a great education there.

:soexcited: for you! You're going to be a dentist--CONGRATULATIONS! 👍
