School list advice!

Just would like some thoughts from some others on my school list. I first and foremost am looking at cost, and then proximity to home. I am considering a military scholarship to pay for some of the more expensive schools, but I do have some things going on with my family that I would like to be close for after graduation.

I also have a legal record, and don't know if that should keep me from applying to some of the more competitive schools I have on this list. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

My stats:
3.57 oGPA (upward trend from 3.1 freshman year)
3.51 sGPA
22 AA (qr - 22, rc - 23), 21 TS (bio - 22, gc - 20, oc - 21), 23 PAT

-150 hours shadowing GP, Perio, Ortho, and OMFS
-1 semester of research
~400 volunteer hours
- Lab tech/assistant position (9 months in June)
-25 hours/week of work all semesters
-Executive officer position in two clubs

-gear head
-artistic ability

IL resident

I guess my questions on this list would be about choosing a private school over Kentucky or OSU, and if I should even bother applying at Penn. I really loved OSU when I considered for undergrad, and the ability to get in-state tuition after a year is very appealing to me.

Ugh LECOM. Only as a last resort.

Add Case Western. I loved the school.

Maybe UoP.

I'd shoot for ~18 schools. You're almost there.

Glimmer : I'll look into Case. What about it did you love? If I was to add 3 more I would be looking at these schools:

-Creighton
-UDM
-MWU-AZ
-Mayland
-Pitt

customx: ^ My only concern is that they ask for an instructor in a non-science department for a LOR, and that is something I don't/ won't have.

I was wondering because I read that UIC only accepts Illinois residents and Southern accepts like 99.9% in-state students

Yes UIC just started only accepting in-state last year. And I could have sworn SIU is only in-state as well. Either way, I'm very lucky to have two in state schools like that.

Case has a really solid clinical education, which is a big concern for me. I also just really liked all of the faculty and people I met there--it felt like "home," though that is a hard thing to quantify!

Hareman... Just google LECOM and do some SDN searches about it.

You need to add UCONN. It's best school you can get into if you don't get into your state school. they give you in state tuition after your first year, they have medical school curriculum, they're pass fail and they have high clinical instruction hours which is unusual for a school with a strong didactic curriculum. This makes UConn the best value, biggest bang for the buck school...

Glimmer: Looks like I'll give Case a go. The practice management part of their clinical curriculum sounds like a fantastic experience. Thank you for the suggestion!
