sGPA: 4.0 cGPA: 4.0

MCAT: 523(132,129,130,132)

State of Residence: NJ

Ethnicity/Race: Latino

Undergraduate: Top 50 school

Clinical Experience: 150 hrs inpatient nursing unit volunteer, 40 hours vaccine distribution center volunteer

Research Experience: 150 hours working directly with a professor in applied mathematics research (Computer vision) since Fall 2020. Taking part in funded summer research program with current research mentor for a committed 350 hours this summer. No publications, but will present a poster in August.

Shadowing: 30 hours, 15 IM, 15 allergist/immunologist

Non-Clinical Volunteering: 60 hours miscellaneous volunteering through my fraternity

Leadership: Executive officer in my fraternity for 3 years: Service chair (200 hours), Recruitment chair (200 hours), President (400 hours). Member of active bystander intervention task force on campus responsible for revising existing curriculum to combat sexual violence and discrimination on the basis of race, gender identity, and sexuality on campus (100 hours).

Other extracurriculars: Lower voice choir for 3 years, symphonic wind band for 3 years, marching band for 3 years

Relevant honors or awards: Dean’s list throughout college, Junior scholarship by nomination, Phi Beta Kappa award for grades and course load in CAS

Other comments: We are a social fraternity on campus, but have a strong focus on member development and civic engagement. I am confident in my ability to work through any stigma surrounding fraternity life by speaking about our chapter’s international recognition and developmental programming in interviews and essays. My experience in my fraternity has been the cornerstone to much of my college life, especially in developing communication, leadership, and lifelong values. I am also having the director of Greek Life on our campus write a recommendation letter to speak about my chapter and the work I’ve done in the Greek community.

Any schools I should remove for lack of research experience? My research work is very involved considering it's mostly independent work, but my hours are low on account of starting it late.

Add Seton Hall and Cooper as you're from NJ and your list is fine. UMass is likely low yield.

And just be sure to include the future research activity on the app.

Thank you for the advice! I didn't know that UMass was considered a low yield school, but now might reconsider applying!

Since you’re not from Mass and it’s a state school. They’ll assume you’d rather go to your own state schools.
