Hi Everyone! I would greatly appreciate any help you have in my school list. I want to make sure I have a good and realistic range of schools in my list, and am willing to apply to ~30 schools.

cGPA and sGPA as calculated by AMCAS or AACOMAS: cGPA= 3.95, sGPA 3.93

MCAT score(s) and breakdown:
517 (129/127/130/131)

State of residence or country of citizenship (if non-US): CA

Ethnicity and/or race: Filipino

Undergraduate Degree: Biochemistry Major, Psychology Minor (graduated december 2020)

Clinical experience (volunteer and non-volunteer):

Residential Counselor at Psychiatric Group Home for children aged 4-13- I worked here for 6 months/900+ hours.

Medical Assistant at Dermatology Clinic- This is currently my gap year position, I've been working here since january and I'm at about 300-400 hours, should be close to 900 hours by time of application.

Research experience and productivity:

~500 hours as undergraduate researcher in medicinal chemistry lab at my university. My lab's focus was chemical synthesis of parasitic growth inhibitors for treatment of neglected parasitic diseases. I was responsible for small molecule synthesis of these inhibitors and also helped design potential structures for testing. My PI says I will definitely be on one and maybe two publications as a 3rd/4th author, but this may not be completed by time of application
~900 hours as Synthetic Chemistry co-op at a mRNA biotech company. Worked here for about 6 months, and did a lot of chemical synthesis of siRNA for treatment of pulmonary diseases.
~150 hours research in a psychology lab researching the impact of age on emotion regulation,

Shadowing experience and specialties represented:

~30 hours shadowing in ER

Non-clinical volunteering

~700+ (roughly 300-400 hours in college) hours as a Youth Ambassador/Rising Leader for the Tourette Association of America. I've been doing this since highschool. While I can go on forever about this activity, I got involved because of my diagnosis/experience with having Tourette Syndrome and have been very active in public speaking at various venues to spread awareness on TS. My journey with TS is also very intertwined for my reasons of pursuing medicine, and so this is an incredibly important activity for me!

~50 hours volunteering in soup kitchen

Other extracurricular activities (including athletics, military service, gap year activities, leadership, teaching, etc)

~ 500+ hours leadership in Filipino Student Organization (executive board for 2 years). I was very involved in this community, and I got very involved in my filipino community and was happy to do so many things from dancing, performing in culture shows, hosting events discussing issues in Filipino communities, and just spreading our culture overall!

~Worked 2 summers as a camp counselor (science/art camp) for 1st-4th graders.

Anything else not listed you think might be important
I mentioned this earlier, but my story and experience with Tourette Syndrome has been a big motivator for pursuing medicine and has also influenced a lot of the activities tht I've done. I will be talking about this in my personal statement, and I know sometimes talking about disabilities in PS can be risky, but for me it just doesn't make sense to not include this because it's such an integral part of who I am!

Anywyas, I'd highly appreciate any help/feedback on my school list. Thanks!

Great application, pretty good list.
I’d add a couple more though. Look into: Pitt, Kaiser, Cincinnati, OSU, Stony Brook, Miami, UArizona, SLU, Wake Forest.

Thank you! Should I be concerned about applying to public schools if I’m out of state? For example schools like UArizona or Cincinnati? I kept a lot of those public schools out but I’ll definitely look into them!

It depends. Some schools are public but they take a decent amount of OOS students. Some schools have regional preferences too. I added Arizona because it’s relatively close to California. Often when public schools accept OOS students they have above average stats. A good cut off would be 1/4-1/3 of the class is OOS as a preliminary filter.

Thank you!! I’ve been thinking about adding a few more stretch schools as well, figured why not. Is this recommended or probably not? Thanks!

Okay thank you! May I ask the reasoning for that? I am concerned that may make my list too too heavy?
