Hi guys, I got my MCAT score (517) back yesterday (128/129/131/129) and I’m hoping to finalize my list of schools so I can submit primaries soon. Any input would help greatly!

About me: Graduated May 2018 with a degree in Biochemistry from a flagship state school in the northeast. I’m female/white.

cGPA: 3.98
sGPA: 3.97

State of Residence: MA

Clinical Experience: I’ve been working full time during my gap year as a Clinical Research Coordinator. I consent/recruit/call patients and also work on the regulatory side of things. I’ll be continuing in this job through this cycle. During college, I worked one summer as a nursing assistant at a nursing home (~300 hours total), working with long term care, hospice, and dementia/Alzheimer’s patients.

Volunteering: About 200 hours volunteering at a soup kitchen and a community center where I helped sort donations for a free community “store” as well as stocked/organized the store and interacted with patrons.

Research: Along with my clinical research, I worked in a neuroscience lab in undergrad for five semesters and two summers. I completed an honors thesis and have one publication from my time in the lab. We also have another publication in the works (1000+ hours).

Jobs: Worked as a group tutor for 4 semesters in calculus and organic chemistry. Got to help with interviews for incoming tutors. After this job, I got moved to a new department at the tutoring center and became a Research Mentor for three semesters, helping students find research opportunities and internships. I was a Peer Mentor, which meant I helped in interviews and in training new mentors.

ECs: I was in a non-social, gender inclusive service fraternity for most of college. Served on Executive Board for two years, including as President my senior year.

Performance: I’ve been singing in choirs since middle school. Took a small break in college, but sang in my school’s women’s choir for three semesters and now sing in a community choir for health and science professionals.

What I’m doing during this cycle: Continuing clinical research and will be volunteering with Crisis Text Line (did training last summer, but didn’t start picking up shifts because I was focused on the MCAT)

The List:

Reaches:
Harvard
Yale
Northwestern
Vanderbilt
Penn
NYU
Columbia
Johns Hopkins

State School:
UMass

Fits:
BU
Tufts
Pitt
Jefferson
Miami
Case Western
Wake Forest
Cornell
Mt Sinai
Einstein
Duke
Emory
Hofstra
Ohio State
Cincinnati
Brown
UVM
Rochester
Dartmouth
SLU

Looking to apply to 25-30 schools. This list feels really top heavy to me. How many reaches should I be aiming for? Is this too many? Also, are there other fits (particularly with slightly lower MCAT medians) that I should have on my list?

I’m pretty open to most areas, just trying to avoid Michigan because of some toxic family members in the area (Oakland is legit 20 minutes away from them haha).

Not too top heavy, looks bien to me.

I used a lot of these WAMC posts to help craft my list, so I wanted to post my outcomes for anyone who might stumble upon this list!

I applied to all the schools I listed above except for Miami and added a few more schools (USF, Chicago, WashU, and Maryland).

I ended up getting IIs at Hofstra, UMass, Wake Forest, SLU, Rochester, and Dartmouth. Got As at Rochester and Wake Forest and WL at the other schools (1st tier at Hofstra). I did get off the WL at UMass at the very end of April and ended up withdrawing from the other WLs eventually.
