Hi everyone! I just received my MCAT score and was wondering if anyone could look at my school list and could give me some suggestions. I've been using MSAR to help me but I'm a bit confused because of my stats (high GPA with decent/ok MCAT score). I can apply to around 30 schools (max), but I currently have 20 which is fine by me. My stats seem fine but my EC's are very lackluster so any advice on school selection will be much appreciated!

Background and experiences
  • Major: Microbiology
  • State of residence: Ohio
  • URM/Black male/LGBT
  • GPA: 3.97
  • MCAT: 513 (129/126/128/130)
  • Shadowing:
    • 130 hours (multiple specialties)
  • Clinical volunteering:
    • 200 hrs
  • Nonclinical volunteering:
    • 100 hrs
  • Research experience:
    • Very small (practically none)
  • Teaching/mentoring:
    • Student mentor for scholars program and for the biology department
  • Others:
    • 1 summer, study abroad
  • Immediate family members in medicine? (y/n): yes
  • Specialty of interest: Radiology/Pathology but honestly idk yet
  • Interest in rural health (y/n): no
  • Lizzy M: 71.70

My preference would be to stay in-state or nearby.

*Additionally, given recent events and my experiences in high school and undergrad, I am more inclined to apply to schools that are in more diverse/urban environments.

School List:
Neomed
Toledo
Wright State
Ohio State
Cincy
Case Western
Indiana
Temple
Drexel
University of Illinois
University of Wisconsin
Tufts
Boston
Emory
Pritzker
Brown
Pittsburgh
UCSF
UVA
Virginia Commonwealth

Potential Others:
Miami?
USF Morsani?
UCF?
Mayo?

Is this list too top heavy?

Mags, any school is yours! Start with WashU and radiate outwards.
