Hey everyone! I am new to SDN and this is my first post! I am looking for advice on my school list. I am looking to apply to between 25-30 schools and am open to adding or removing schools as necessary. Currently, I think my clinical hours are low and I will be working a full time clinical job after graduation in December to add to this area. My application focuses on my rural background and how I want to use research to build tool to aid in providing care in underserved areas. Thank you for any suggestions you have!
  1. cGPA/sGPA: 4.0
  2. Major: Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology; Mathematics
  3. MCAT score: 516 (132,127,129,128)
  4. State of residence: MN, close ties to NE, SD, IA
  5. Demographics: White, Female
  6. Undergraduate: Small Private University
  7. Clinical experience: 240 (180 EKG Tech, 60 Child life Volunteer)
  8. Research experience: 1090 (2 summers of full time research in Radiology at St. Jude, capstone project in mathematical modeling of hospital acquired infections - 4 presentations, published abstract for international conference)
  9. Shadowing experience: 122 (Radiology, surgery, oncology, radiation oncology, palliative care - mostly in pediatrics)
  10. Non-clinical volunteering: 195 (tutor in underserved school, coding events for youth)
  11. Other extracurricular activities: Pre-med club president, chemistry club treasurer, organic chemistry tutor, mathematics TA
  12. Relevant honors or awards: 4 university level awards given to one student per year
  13. Anything else not listed you think might be important: My application has a focus on pediatrics and radiology, specifically about developing tools for rural communities. I plan to practice in a rural area in the future.

People will be able to give you better suggestions if you use a format like this: (especially your state of residence)

How to format your WAMC thread

Suggested information to include when creating a WAMC thread are as follows:
  1. cGPA and sGPA as calculated by AMCAS or AACOMAS
  2. MCAT score(s) and breakdown. Include all (non-voided) attempts.
  3. State of residence or country of citizenship (if non-US)
  4. Ethnicity and/or race
  5. Undergraduate institution or category
  6. Clinical experience (volunteer and non-volunteer)
  7. Research experience and productivity
  8. Shadowing experience and specialties represented
  9. Non-clinical volunteering
  10. Other extracurricular activities (including athletics, military service, gap year activities, leadership, teaching, etc)
  11. Relevant honors or awards
  12. Anything else not listed you think might be important

Loyola, St. Louis, U Chicago and Creighton are looking for far more non clinical volunteering than you have. You also have several reaches. I suggest these schools with your stats:
Minnesota
North Dakota
South Dakota
Iowa
Medical College Wisconsin
Western Michigan
Oakland Beaumont
Rosalind Franklin
TCU
USF Morsani
Miami
Wake Forest
Virginia Commonwealth
Eastern Virginia
George Washington
Drexel
Temple
Jefferson
Penn State
Hackensack
Hofstra
New York Medical College
Albany
Vermont
Quinnipiac
Tufts

Non-clinical volunteering: 195 (tutor in underserved school, coding events for youth)
You don't list any service orientation activities. You should have 150 hours when you submit your application. Activities include food distribution, shelter volunteer, job/tax preparation, legal support, transportation services, or housing rehabilitation. Having zero hours puts your application at risk of getting screened out at most schools unless there is a strong mission fit.
