PA Resident (from rural area), ORM

GPA:
Undergrad Bioengineering from T50: Total 3.87, sGPA 3.88
Masters of Engineering from same school: total 3.94, sGPA 4.00

I have a heavy engineering emphasis in my app! Various research projects, and awards - what schools will look more favorable on this?

Current gap year job: Virtual reality consultant for neurosurgery department at local hospital (generate models for office visits, and assist intraoperatively as well)

MCAT: 506 (last june) --> 518 (04/2023) [131/125/130/132]
How should I go about low CARS score? It is below 10th percentile for schools I'm interested in with composite score in reach

Volunteering - 100 hours in Hospital (regular hospital volunteer - talk to patients and get them snacks sometimes)

Shadowing - 130 hours (various specialties, mostly pediatrics)

Patient Care: 2500+ hours as an EMT (some paid, some volunteer, some at an amusement park too)

Clinical research: 300+ (retrospective study using Epic and self-made database in cardiothoracic surgery outcomes)

Non-clinical Research: 1500+ (1 undergrad research project - no pubs, but won a national research award from the NIH for best tech for minority communities/health disparities, NSF REU summer research with a publication (listed as author #8)). I also have a first author publication about fishing and climate change.

Non-clinical volunteering: 200 (with low income and diverse communities)

Story: grew up in rural community and learned to be resourceful, which allowed me to tie in medicine with engineering projects for low income and other marginalized communities. i hope to serve as a bridge between tech innovation and medicine.

Can somebody please help me schools that seem like a good fit?

Also i am applying with 6 LOR (3 are outstanding, 2 are very good but not as personable, one other I am unsure)

Lop off the letter you are unsure about, especially if it is not a faculty letter. Many schools cap the letters they accept at 5. Some even do 3-4.

I suggest:

Carle
Pitt
Jefferson
Temple
Drexel
Penn State
Geisinger
Columbia (see their rural track)
Tufts (Maine track)
Boston
Vermont
Dartmouth
UVA
VTech
Emory
Iowa
Creighton
Hofstra
Einstein
Rochester
USF
Miami
Duke
Hackensack
Saint Louis
Wake
Western Michigan
Mayo
Ohio State
Cincinnati
Case

You may want to look into Texas A&M's EnMed program as well.

I agree with my wise young colleague on the list.
