GPA: estimated at ~ 3.42, it may be higher though but definitely not lower — would need to calculate since I attended two institutions.

1000+ clinical hours
600+ clinical volunteer hours
200+ non-clinical volunteer hours

1-3 years of research (depending on how long I stay at my new research job)

My biggest concern is my MCAT (especially CARs). Do I have a chance or should I retake for a Top 20 MD/PhD program? Please advise. Thank you!

There is no such thing as a Top-20 MD/PhD program since there are only 40 or so MSTP-funded programs, and they all know each other very well. That said, yes, your metrics may be a little lower than ideal for MD/PhD consideration, but not impossible without a strong application talking about why you have prepared well for the MSTP track. Have you gone to affinity-related research conferences such as SACNAS and networked with admissions officers and recruiters?

Thank you for clarifying that. And unfortunately not since my school’s chapter was just starting up the semester I was graduating. I’m in my first gap year right now and plan to extend my time off given I’d like to continue working on my research portfolio (not to speak my MCAT).

Well, if you aren't able to go to the SACNAS conferences, you should be able to find out which schools had recruitment tables for their research and medical school programs. Alternatively, try to find the medical schools represented in the LMSA (Latino Medical Students Association) and reach out to the students at those programs.

Hey Gcuvier. I'd love to hear what you find out the majority of opinions you obtain through this and other sites. I'm in a similar situation, although I would just like to pursue an MD program. Feel free to shoot me a message. 🙂 I'm highly debating retaking too.

Would a retake aiming for at least a 508 make much of a difference — given it is a retake? How about adding Tulane?

You are not competitive for Tulane. If you retake the MCAT do not do so until your practice scores are consistently 510 or higher.
