These are the schools I went with KCOM, SOMA, ACOM, CUCOM, the Via's, LMU, MU, PNU, RVU, PKCOM, WVSOM.

Please be honest, do you think I have an actual shot with these schools?

Refresher: My GPA (sGPA 3.97, cGPA 3.88 is good, but my MCAT (24 6P/10V/8B). 150+ DO shadowing hours, 1000+ volunteer hours, including international missions, employed as a Medical Lab Scientist, Great LOR's, adjunct professor in molecular diagnostics, from an extremely rural area, want to do rural medicine.

I am NOT going to retake the MCAT. I realize that is not ideal, but I have an excellent reason which will be addressed in my personal statement.

Thanks

Well, your gpa is great, but the mcat is pretty subpar and from what I've seen many is that Verbal ironically isn't that highly regarded by DO schools ( May be an unsubstantiated point, but its seemed that way to me).

So.. not, to pry.. well actually yes, why aren't you going to retake?

I would replace Marian with William Carey personally. Marian is seemingly all about the stats right now IMO

you state this because you see many applicants with low VR getting in?

Yes, I've seen many applicants get in with low VR scores. I've come to accept that largely many schools are willing to let it slide as long as it's above a 6.

umm is the cut off seem to be around a 6 though? given the sciences are high with good GPA?....to be honest, if they get an 8, they might just try MD in states.
I read past year's school thread and see very few even with a 5 VR getting in....so why? how come?

Some schools don't consider VR like Touro-NY.
Also his science scores aren't high.

are u serious? Touro-NY only takes in science scores? how come this is never published on the website?
yea I mean for other people, i see people with good stats, 10 at least on science, 6VR, good EC, good LOR, get in plently of schools so idk if DO school is more lenient!

Short version: I have an immediate family member in hospice. I am choosing to spend my time with them.

Sounds like you will need to take a year off and then retake the MCAT. The GPA is impressive but the 24 isn't.

At least your list is somewhat reasonable. WVSOM and ACOM will probably reach out to you. RVU looks for higher scores.

Wonder what @Goro would say about this situation.

I disagree. OP can get a ii here. I did with very similar stats.
But I agree, WCU might be a good choice to add and take out CUSOM. CUSOM has a subsection cut off of 7.

OP, go ahead and apply now if you want but improving your score to >30 would put you in the running for MD. Science sections are not too hard to increase to ~10s with hard work alone.

However, a retake isn't necessary for you to get in this cycle. A retake is necessary if you are going to be picky, though (i.e. gunning for touro, kcom, or soma)

Can you cite the source of the subsection cut off at 7 for CUSOM?
Thanks!

per this email from admissions.

Yes. This was a pre-secondary rejection.

other than KCUMB and CUSOM having a sub section 7 cut off, do you know any other school with this cut off?

Can you tell me the schools you applied and get ii and acceptance (if you dont mind) with stats similar to OP's?

ACOM,CUSOM,VCOM,PCOM (ga),LMUDCOM,MUCOM,KYCOM,WVSOM,LUCOM,WCUCOM

My advice- apply broadly and don't hesitate to include reach schools. The only schools I think you should probably exclude are the Touro's and CCOM. And I guess KCUMB and CUSOM since they have strict cutoffs apparently.

With a broad application it wouldn't surprise me if you got 10+ ii's.

do you mind listing your stats? your school of application? your ii? and your acceptance? so I can have an idea 🙂 thanks!

Yes, with an excellent GPA as you have you have a decemt shot with the schools you listed. You are not terribly out of range with a 24, and your very, very good GPA should assist you in balancing out.

Take the advice of @verynice and also add in WC as mentioned. Perhaps you would do well to add in PCOM-GA and maybe LUCOM, if you are able to get around their ideals...I'm assuming you want the best list for acceptance odds, so it should be included...

I think TUCOM-NV might be considered, plus Wm Carey.

Good luck!

Your physics score may hurt you, but I think you still have a chance. I personally think you should add KCUMB to your list.

KCUMB is an awesome school and I wish I could apply. They have a minimum requirement of 7 in each section, so I wouldn't even get a secondary.
