Hey guys,

I'll currently applying and would appreciate school recommendations.
My DAT scores are 22AA, 23TS (26 O-Chem), 28PAT with nothing below 20.
Overall gpa of 3.86, and science GPA of 3.90+. High upward trend.

Other info:
  • Leadership: academic affairs student rep., senior class rep., science tutor. All for 1 year
  • 80 hours job shadowing with general dentist, endodontist, & OMFS. Majority were with general dentist. I will be continuing to job shadow over the summer and update schools
  • ~200 volunteer hours with community outreach and development
  • Worked as a CNA for 1 year. Will continue working as a CNA after this summer.
  • Currently have 2 research publications, and two presentations
  • Currently researching for 10 weeks this summer
  • 1st 2 years of college were at CC, and only science pre-reqs I took there were gen bio & gen chem
  • Have strong LORs
My current list:
  • University of Penn
  • Iowa
  • Columbia
  • Harvard
  • UCLA
  • UCSF
  • Stony Brook
  • UConn
  • Rutgers
  • University of Alabama
  • Marquette
Which schools should I add/remove from the list? Thanks!

Good question haha. I think I fit well with their program and am a competitive applicant there. However, I'm on the fence because of how insanely expensive it is.

Your scores are great bro, I personally would take them off your list and add some other schools. Harvard will be a tough bet but i wouldn't be surprised if you got an interview (though i would double check their CC rules).

Solid list but I will disagree with some other posters in saying that I think adding some "safety" schools AKA expensive schools like NYU is a good bet. In your case I would Louisville, Kentucky, and maybe one of the following: NYU, LECON, Touro, or Midwestern-AZ.

Should I even apply to NYU? I'm second guessing myself here due to how expensive it is (this has been heavily talked about on SDN)?

Haha good point. Do you think I should even apply to more schools? These are the only 8 I'm really interested in.

I'd add maybe 2 more schools. You have very strong stats but all the schools you listed (except maybe Iowa) are extremely competitive to get into, so just to be safe I'd add a few more.

Second that. Maybe find some schools that have lower average stats but that you could see yourself attending and that are cheaper

Michigan is good price. Bostonand tufts look pretty good but they're as expensive as schools in your list
If tuition and clinical excellence are important factors for you, I'd add UNLV.
What about Marquette & Alabama? Research and specialization are most important, but I'm lost as to which ones (besides the schools I've listed) would best suit me.

Those are actually great school! Ive talked to dentists and Ive only heard praise about both their programs. Marquette has good research from what Ive read. I dunno about Alabama but I know they have an excellent program and good clinical training
