OMG I am going crazy here. I am not asking for help but holy crap there are just so many variables to choose from!!! where do you want to live. Where do you think you have the best chance of acceptance. What kind of school do you think would fit you best. Do you think you have the grades to get into certain programs. Do they have regional preference or in state preference UGH OMG I have been through the CIB like 100 times over and over and over again its driving me nuts. Oh and I don't have a DO lor YET. I am still looking for a DO to shadow ( I have three on the list I am going to call/stop in thier office today) but do I send out the primaries to the schools that require a DO lor for thier supplemental? or do I wait until I have the DO lor? my god this process is crazy on top of it im waiting for my mcat score today and I know im going to have done better than last time but I still have that fear of what if I don't. Lets say im hypothetically applying with this crappy 23 and with my average gpa where the hell do I apply!!!! im losing my mind I tell ya, losing it!

ok im done ranting but seriously im at the library and checking for my scores and looking through the pros and cons thread a million times and thinking to myself, what the heck am I gonna do. I mean a year from now where will I be, accepted? and if so where do I want to/am I gonna end up bieng!

ok now im done😱

is anyone else going crazy over all of this crap or is it just me@!

OP, I felt the same way you did a year ago. The whole app process sucks, you'll get through it. Most of us felt the same way. Hang in there dude.

Seriously!!!!! I've been in the library doing the same thing as you do for three hours!!! :scared:

Just apply to every single one, then you won't have to worry about making any selections 😛 jk

I know someone who applied to 30+ schools and the one thing he wishes he did differently was be more selective about the ones who are not OOS friendly. but on top of it with DO schools you have ones who don't accept MD LOR's instead of DO's which makes it even harder until you obtain a DO LOR!!

Get that DO LOR ASAP, so you don't end up limiting yourself 👍

Where can we find which schools are oos friendly? It doesn't look like its in the osteopathic handbook. I'm from CA...

[EDIT]Where in the CIB is OOS stuff listed?

To the bolded....

Your primary applications will not be sent for about 3 weeks from today (assuming you pressed the "Pay and Submit" button today).

So, you should do whatever it takes to get a DO Letter of Rec in the next 3 weeks (and take into consideration snail mail mailing time...3-5 business days usually), otherwise your DO Letter of Rec will be holding your application back.

Cool.

You said you had "a list" of DO's. Did you get this from the DO Mentor program? If so, do you recommend that I try to do this if I want to mentor someone in the next few weeks? How quickly are you given a list of DO's who are shadow friendly in your area?

Thanks.

Almost all DO schools are private and therefor fairly OOS friendly. There are some who prefer a particular region (VCOM for the Appalachian region, PNWU for the pacific northwest, Western-Or for the NW as well I believe, UMDNJ, UNECOM), some that limit OOS by their tuition (MSU, WVU) and a few that are just high in-state preference (TCOM, OSUCOM, OUCOM)

I believe that covers them  I could be wrong or be missing one though. For the most part if your stats are good it can get you in the door at any of these schools though.

I didn't necessarily use the mentor program. I think that takes too long. Under the stickies up at the top I used the state website, I put in my zip code and a whole bunch of DO's came up. I saw there was one in my town and I stopped by with a copy of my app including personal statement, GPA and MCAT score. So Check out it out see if there are any DO's in your area (it only lists them if they are AOA certified I believe). He didnt seem too happy to do it but he agreed to one day. Ill probly ask for the letter than. It was realy quick.

Thats what I'm doing!! not all of them though only 23-24. Hopefully I get in one or more, then I'll decide!!! I figured, it's better to have more choices to pick from than not having any!!!
