school specific forums

Do you guys think school specific forums would be helpful, particularly for p1 students? I mean, for example, say you are going to UofA pharmacy school. Would a forum only for UofA pharmacy students be helpful and used?

I was thinking they would be helpful because students would be able to help each other study online or post any school related events or even bring the school community closer together. But maybe thats just me.

I don't know that we have enough students posting from the various schools to justify school specific forums - but maybe at some point we could have a class threads subforum like the med students have:

Allopathic

Osteopathic

Thoughts?

Although I'm not a student, I don't think that's a bad idea. In fact, when I first joined SDN, I was looking for a school-specific sub-forum to see if there were any alumni here. I can see how a school-specific forum would be helpful by fostering the camaraderie amongst classmates. On the other hand, due to privacy concerns, some people may not want to reveal their school. Or, perhaps most schools already have some form of groupware or virtual network where they can collaborate without going out into a public internet forum such as this. As All4MyDaughter said, there may not be enough students from each school to justify specific forums. It would sure take a lot of "word-of-mouse" advertising to let everyone know about this site. 🙂 In fact, I wonder if/how many of my colleagues and current students at my alma mater actually know about SDN...

I don't think we have enough people to justify it. I think a lot would be lost in the school specific forums. This way we can keep tabs on weirdness (and good things!) going on at other schools.

I know many classes have facebook groups and my class has a website where we post old tests, etc that we come across. I don't really see a need for class or school-specific sub-forums.

there are over 95 colleges of pharmacy in america today....I can't imagine 95 different sub-foums for this site. It would be ridiculous

Hard to imagine there being 95 school-specific threads. But, if that does somehow happen, it would seem that we could surely do what was done for the med student school-specific subforums. Doesn't look like the time has come for that, though. Just have to play it by eye...

I'm not in favor of it, largely because if you cut a population that small, people can much more easily figure who you are, if you haven't given that away already.

Besides, I like the forums for all the other people that post here.

Having subforums for specific schools is out (as I already stated in post #2).
But have a subforum where people can make and maintain school-related threads is a possibility.
