I'm curious what other schools do to help students prepare for Step I. Specifically I'm interested in how much time off people have, school provided Qbank, or any sort of school sponsored prep class/lectures.

My school gives us 5 weeks off (4 + 1 week for spring break) and does not provide a Qbank nor do they provide any sort of Step I preparatory class to anyone but those they feel are in danger of not passing.

EDIT: Our school average is a 227 if you know yours please post it.

My school gives us the option to take two months off from our clinical rotations (and delay our graduation by two months) to take Step 1. I'm going to school in Australia, so most of the students here don't take Step 1.

Private in NE-No prep course or QBank
*Student Council/Dean's Office have invited DIT, Kaplan, and Pathoma to come out and speak
*There are 8 wks from the last day of class in early May until the 1st day of the first clerkship
*Students with financial difficulty, students with low marks, and a few of the top students are given an opportunity to apply for a Kaplan scholarship to take their class for free

Not much - no prep course or Qbank deals offered by the school. Just 4-8 weeks (including vacation time) to study after second year; you're basically on your own

Optional review class taught by students (though, heard it's not very good). Some Path review session from a UCSF professor. Kaplan and DIT have come to talk about their programs (some people got free QBanks, etc.).

We have about 9 weeks to study (8 weeks + 1 spring break). Most people take less just because of burnout after a while. It's possible to delay clinics and take more time. It doesn't affect graduation, but might make things harder if you don't' know what you want to do yet and need time to explore.

Average Step I: 233.

We used to get a prep course, but this year we will not have one due to low attendance. It used to come out of financial aid anyway, so it makes sense to me that instead we just get to decide for ourselves if we want to take a course, and if so what we want to take. We get Kaplan Qbank for COMLEX paid for.

Time to study: Up to 7 weeks if you wanted to take all of it. Most people take 5-6 so they can have a break before rotations.

Average Step 1: Most people at my school do take the USMLE (not everyone of course, since we're DO). Average last year was 216 with ~95% pass rate.

We get 9 weeks off (4 of which have an "integrated cases" PBL type course, but only from 8-10 and with no tests). The school gives review lectures for various topics. They're supposed to be pretty good, but (1) they provide detailed notes and (2) people tend to stick to their schedule, so attendance is sparse and they may not offer them in the future.

The school also pays for 2 NBME exams, which is nice, but no Qbanks. Our average score is supposed to be "high" and "well above the national average," but we aren't given a number and who knows how they calculate their statistics, so take it w/ a grain of salt (as you should with any school's self-analyzed and self-published data).

Private in Boston,Ma. We were given 6 weeks after the last day of MS2. We were provided with nbme vouchers ( 2), Kaplan HY. Provided with in house qbank and uworld subscription.

Our school average according to dean is 249

Clinical rotations first. 10 weeks off. Online review videos and guides from basic science professors. Crappy 3rd party qbank that no-one uses. One free NBME.

Whaa??? Does everyone at your school do rotations first? Or is it something that you decided on? I am just curious.

I doubt that.

Even at a certain "private school in boston" I still highly doubt that 249 figure.

A 249 average seems quite unusual, but not so unusual that three different people need to publicly question somebody's honesty.
