A friend of mine is applying to dental school and I was wondering if you guys could give him some suggestions on what school he should consider.

New England area would be great. Or reasonable distance.

Microbiology Major
GPA: 3.4 (Honors College)
Science GPA: 3.3 (Honors College)
DAT:
-PA:19
-QR:14
-RC:20
-Bio:17
-GC:15
-OC:18
-TS:17
-AA:17

He is currently a junior and has enough classes even this year to graduate. He is involved in a lot of research. He is an RA for his dorm floor. A lot of volunteering. He shadowed a lot at a dentist who wrote him a very good letter.

He's looking at 10-15 schools.

I know his DAT scores are low but do you guys know any solid choices?

I don't think he has a solid chance anywhere. He needs to retake the DAT and get all sections >17 and shoot for 20s+.

people with those stats get in every single year...but does your "friend" hope for being the rule or the exception?

i would retake the DAT. if not, better do some research on the schools you're gonna pick that accept stats within your/your friend's range

Thanks guys.

I haven't talked to him yet because he supposedly locked himself in his room for about 3 weeks so far to study for the DATs. I think he is releasing himself from the room next week. I'll pass on the verdict then.

There are no solid choices.. right now.

Retake the DAT. RC and GC need to go up to at least 17+ (no individual section below 17), AA and TS should be 19+.
