School is starting to seem pretty... well... unpleasant. The stress seems to bring out the worst in people. I don't even want to go to school anymore. People complain during lecture; it's a bummer. It's like a bad version of "story time" during every lecture. When I go home to study, the process is slow and inefficient right now, the material just reminds me of the bad "story time". Work reminds me of school too.

I guess I'm just looking for advice. I'll try to think of positive things to offset the negativity, but that's not working. I could pull a couple of B's and mostly C's without studying, hang out with friends and drink bubbly, but I'm not like that. I'm dedicated, and I really want to succeed. I don't want to throw in my towel; that's bad for the profession. What am I suppose to do until the week of finals is over (Mardi Gras is coming up, but we have an exam in Drug Trivia II the day after Mardi Gras, which is just another academic bummer)?

Help! 😱

Good god. I read that too fast and thought it said "Dung Trivia II," and i was thinking, wow, that's a little more intense than your average microbiology course, and why in the world would there be a second-level course?

Um, never mind.

;-)

My advice?

Hang out with your non-whiny friends and do something non-school related away from campus.

Go to happy hour AT LEAST once a week.

Laugh it off, 'cause you're gonna drive yourself crazy in the long run.

A few B's and C's never hurt anybody.

Good luck!

Hit up the gym.

Befriend people outside pharmacy school, or those in pharmacy school who do not care about academics at all [hard to find].

Few casual brewskies.

Do something, for at least an hour every day, that is what you _want_ to do. Read, sports, chill at a bar, whatever.

School blows man. I'm in the same boat. No motivation for it anymore.

What school do you go to? Maybe it is the problem of your professor and not you?

Thanks for the advice everyone! I really appreciate what y'all've(100% slang: http://wordie.org/words/y'all 😛) said.

I soaked in the tub for about an hour. It was nice. I love the beach, so naturally, I enjoy soaking at home. That was PharmDstudent's hour to herself!

Maybe I'll have to make two lists every day. The lists could be side-by-side. One list could have things on it that I don't like to do, and the other list could have things that I do enjoy doing. Every time I do something that I don't like, I can do something that I do like to balance it out- kind of like a reward system.

I'll try those socializing tips too. There's only one small problem... in class, we all sit in the same seats every day. I've been looking around to see if there are other places that I can sit, but I haven't found a "good" spot yet. Maybe I'll just force myself to move one day.

I don't think the problem lies within the program. The lectures are hard to follow sometimes, but otherwise, I think it's the way that they "lecture" and that the material is dry.

Any additional advice that y'all can offer would be appreciated too...

Thanks Old Timer! 🙂

I'll get back to you soon.
I have to go play school for a couple of hours.

Hope you had a relaxing soak! 🙂

I also agree with what Requiem said about setting at least ONE hour aside just for yourself, doing something you enjoy. Oh, aren't you the one with the cute gray tabby cat? May I suggest additional play/petting time with her? I heard that just stroking a pet lowers blood pressure ... plus, the animal benefits too! 🙂

That's a great idea!
Her name is Tabby(it's so original, I know 🙄). She's a silly kitty. She likes the salty water that's drained from cans of tuna. She doesn't actually like the tuna 😛. I always see her when I come home. She "asks" to come inside so that she can eat. She has a big nose too, which is super cute for a kitty.
When it's really cold or hot outside, I let her inside, and she'll sleep on the corner of my pillow 🙂.

The benefits of petting are definitely advantageous. I wouldn't have even thought about it if you hadn't mentioned it.
I've read a little bit of research about the benefits of dark chocolate; it's suppose to lower pressure too. I try to eat a little here and there. The benefits will decrease dramatically if it's consumed along with milk derivatives, so I'll chew on Adora chocolate disks with Ca++ and Vit D in the morning.

I'll just have to keep working on this stress/negativity thing. It'll take time, but the changes will be worth it!

Oh, and by the way, I sat one seat over in class today. It made a big difference.
