Does anyone know how valuable it is to visit a few of the schools to which you are applying and personally meet with an admissions offer and get a tour of the school? I will be doing so at Kentucky and Louisville and am thinking that it's a good move.

Any advice, comments, or experience?

I did this at UK and it had its pros and cons...first it was nice to talk to kim and get a feel for the school and see the clinic area but the bad part is that it ended up feeling like an interview..he asked me questions that i just wasn't prepared to be asked...nothing major but i was not going into expecting interview questions...needless to say i didn't get an interview or hear anything other than having to pay 50 bucks and then didn't even get a secondary application to fill out. I did the same thing at WVU, where i think it helped big time. It was more of giving them a face to go with the name and they didn't drill me...i start class there in 16 days!!! any question feel free to pm me.

I think it's one of the most important things to do once you've been accepted to the school. (Wait until you hear from all of them, and then make a visiting circuit with someone whose opinion you trust and who is seeing the school(s) for the first time.) I did this with several schools and it made a huge difference for me; you get to talk to random students you see, you can get "behind the scenes" more and see things that weren't specifically set up for the interview. Also, you can browse the campus and facilities more and you don't have to feel rushed. Hey, you're already accepted!

I wouldn't do it before you're invited for an interview; during one, they're really good at spending the day introducing you to the school (if you cannot make another visit once you're accepted.) Also, you don't want to show up and look unprepared or seem obsessive...if they want you for an interview, they'll let you know! Good luck!

I think it really depends on the school. I emailed the Dean of Admissions for my in-state school b/c I had a question about shadowing and he actually told me they like to see interested students come in. It was the year before I was applying so he gave me a tour and looked over my transcript to see what my grades looked like and what classes he suggested I take....no "interview" questions and I'm glad b/c I wouldnt have been prepared! I think it puts you ahead of some other applicants b/c im sure it helps if the dean sees your app and can remember you.
