Hi guys, i was wondering as far as getting a job after you graduate pharmacy school and pass the boards, does it really matter which school you graduated from? Lets say USN Vs. USC or something like that?

Im interested in this to. I have read in previous threads that it does not matter which school you attend because the demand is so high. However in the future when the supply meets demand there will be competition for jobs. Im assuming employers will look at what school you attended and years of experience as well as other personal attributes. I personally just want to get in and out as fast as possible so I am hoping to attend a three year school. By the time I graduate there should still be a high demand for pharmacist so school rank will not matter.

I wonder too....But, most pharmacists say that it doesn't matter where you get your degree. On the other hand, when applying to residencies, I wonder if reputation really matters?

On the other hand, if you are worried about whether you'll find a job after you graduate...then I think it depends what you are going into--retail, hospital, other? I asked my interviewers if they think the market will become saturated, especially retail, and he said that it is getting there...especially people who want to go back home and practice. Even my sister's friend who works at a Walgreens had to work as a floater for a while in the Bay Area until she was permantent at one store. But she always says that CA is becoming saturated, unless you want to work in underrepresented areas...

On the other hand, there are always positions for staff pharmacies at hospitals, according to one of the pharmacist (she's been shopping for a new place to work at since she's not happy with her current job).

I guess...it all boils down with what you want to do after you pass the boards....I'll try to keep my mind off of that for now...

If the person making the hiring decision also went to your school, then it sure can make a difference. When I showed up for my new rotation yesterday, my preceptor was saying I was the new "UF student". With an emphasis on the "UF". She also gets students from Nova. On her wall was her UF diploma. Their newest clinical pharmacist (hired 9 months ago) is a recent UF grad with a 1 year residency. At my last rotation, the clinical pharmacy manager also had a UF diploma on his wall. If you go to a school with lots of alumni in high places, it can only be a good thing.

For retail, they just want a warm body who passed the boards.

I found out last week that there was also a FAMU student there. I thought she was a tech until Friday. They had her peeling labels and alphabetizing files. My preceptor said that she was very bright.
