I am planning to apply to medical school in June 2012. I am currently studying for the MCAT and plan to take it in November 2011. Aside from this, I am working as a medical laboratory technician in two hospitals, at least 40 hours a week, if not more.

My significant other is planning to go into Physical Therapy, and is also planning to take a year off to volunteer and work at PT clinics.

Does anyone know of any DO schools that also have PT programs, or DO schools that are near other schools that have PT programs? I know Western University of Health Sciences, Midwestern AZCOM, Midwestern Chicago, and Des Moines are a few, but both of our GPA's are a bit on the lower end (~3.0 or so), so it may be hard to get into such schools.

Thanks!

I thought September was the last month you can take the MCAT.

VCOM in Blacksburg is close to Radford University in Radford that has a PT program, but they're only partially accredited I believe; however, that should change soon.

Radford is about 12 miles away.

Nova has both and many others.

You might want to take some time to become more competitive, I.e spend some time retaking courses and allot more time for the GRE/Mcat to maximize the potential of staying close together.

That being said...
Your best bet is to apply to schools in big cities like..NSU,PCOM,CCOM,DMUCOM, Touro-NY, etc. as those cities will likely have at least 1 physical therapy school.

Also Touro-NV has a PT program as well as a DO program. ATSU in Arizona also has a DO & PT school. UNECOM does also.

The Radford PT program is about to start it's first year, so assuming everything goes according to plan, they should be accredited in 3 years with the first graduating class. I'll also add that their incoming class is only 6 students, so apparently they're going to be a fairly competitive program.

UNE has both, but the PT program is at the Portland Campus, while the med school is at the Biddeford campus...but if you find a place to live in between, then you'd be golden...also it helps if you have New England/Northeastern ties...but it won't disqualify you.

Your GPA is kind of low for UNE's DO program though. They tend to have higher stats...typically closer to ~3.5, ~27 MCAT, I think the PT program also has about a 3.5 average GPA too...so you both may need to take some additional coursework, but I think that might be the case at most schools since you both getting into the same school is going to be a big game of chance, but the better your stats, the more the odds are in your favor.

I am applying for the cycle starting June 2012 (my first year would start Fall 2013)

I need to check up on this...

NYCOM has a PT program on campus. Touro has a PT program in NYC about 15-20 minutes from the DO school by subway.

If you did NSU, you guys would take classes in the same building and look adorable in your color coded scrubs.

Looks like I have to decide between September and January....I guess it's January then...
