Just took my DAT, it turned out to be 19AA/19TS/17PAT, but I got a 16 on QR. My GPA is 3.6 and 3.45 in science at a good university. Are there schools that will eliminate you if you have a 15 or a 16 in any section? Where should I apply with my stats?

if I were you , I would just retake it. Aim for 20+ and you'll have a better shot at getting into better schools.

I would probably get a higher score the second time around, but i thought about it and thought about studying for the dat...i said hell no. I will apply with my stats! Any more infos about the schools and my stats would be most helpful!!!!

good decision.

1-i scored a 21 AA but it is because i had a 15 on the QR 😱 ...schools did not eliminate me and i got into my top choice so do not beleive those who tell you that just because you have one blemish in your DAT, you get eliminated. it's the whole package

2-19 AA is perfectly acceptable and more than half of the dental schools in the country report an entering class of average of 19 or less, according to the most recent ADEA publication. if you apply early, you can get into many schools, not just one. consult predents.com and check out the profiles of those who applied early and yet had <20 AA....

good luck....

thanks for the encouragement!!!

Retake it. UNLV will put you on the waiting list for the interviews till the very end. I would not take that risk.

u should call the schools you want to apply to see what they think. many schools don't value qr.

Most schools will tell you that QR is the least looked at section...I did pretty bad on this section, but made up for it with awesome organic and gen chem scores. I think if you can supplement your app in anyway, then you will be fine...I'm sure with that high AA that some of your DAT scores are pretty darn good.

why is there a qr section on the dat anyways? I think i know how to count teeth! I will apply to a good number of schools and we shall see. Retaking it again is out of the question, there is no way i'm going to put myself in another 2 to 3 months of hell all over again. If i don't get in any school with my scores, then i'll retake it again.

i think it's there to show logic and reasoning skills.

shouldn't logic and skills be covered in organic chem, bio, RC, G-Chem, and PAT? they're there to make sure you can calculate how fast your train is going if the other train is going a bit faster than you by 3 seconds, because that is really important for being a dentist. Sorry, didn't mean the offend your comment, but that section is just bogus.

2 of the schools I interviewed at laughed when i told them I had a 15 on the QR and I asked, "Do you guys care about that" and they said "Nope".

786-crazy-nail-through-lips-avatar girl makes a good point that UNLV has this funky algorithmic equation that determines if you get into there and the QR score is factored in very highly along with ochem and I think TS. They said that they found "strong correlation" between QR scores and NBDE's.

I got into both schools that I applied to. I had a 13 on the QR, but made up with a 25 on the organic. At VCU they actually said, "your QR is not bad, but not good." I was amazed. But, who cares? I got in.

According to UOP you need 20+ on all sections.......hmmmm
R.I.P. Proof (1975-2006)

I will agree that QR is the least important so don't sweat that too much and your overall scores are decent. Your GPA is good as well. Apply early and you will get some interviews.

As bigsilvo said, UoP has a hard on for the DAT so save your $ and don't apply there!

I believe UOP changed their min requirement to 17. I agree that QR is the least important section and most schools probly won't care if you have a low QR. However, if you plan on applying to more difficult-to-get-in schools, I think you should retake it to bring other sections up. With your GPAs, I'm sure you are capable of bringing them up. You might be OK, but I wouldn't take the risk. You already know most the material as your scores show. It doesn't take too much more to improve them. It's more about the strategy IMO.

Apply early and you should be fine, if you are going to mess up anywhere QR is the section to goof.
