Can anyone give me a list of schools that look down on community college courses? I ask this because I took all of my pre-reqs at a community college before transferring and finishing my upper divs at a university. Thanks.

If I remember correctly, UHCO told me that they look unfavorably on prereqs taken at a CC.

During a tour last year SUNY said they were not fans, but if you took higher level sciences at a competitive school after the pre-reqs at a cc they said that was okay

As far as I know, all the colleges of optometry "frown upon" courses completed at two-year colleges, though none outright rejects the credits, and most tend not to be too harsh if only a class or two on your otherwise-appreciable transcript happens to have been taken at a community college.

When I spoke with SUNY last year, they were BIG TIME negative on the phone when talking about my CC pre-reqs that I had taken.

SUNY is hard on the cc's - undeservedly IMO. I took about 90% of my pre-req credits at cc, and was accepted everywhere I applied. Keep in mind that it's the overall quality of the application that the schools look for. I had already proven that I could do very well & handle a full load at the university since I received my BS in business from the U. The quality of the courses at the cc I attended were the same, if not better than those at the U, particularly because the PhD's taught at both schools. I was in classes that had 60 students and no TA's with the very professors I would have taken the classes with at the U with 300+ students and 4 TA's.

So I have to disagree with Commando, because the fact that nearly all of my pre-req's were taken at cc never came into question at any of the schools I interviewed at.

Well, I base my conclusion on the responses I received from schools when I asked how they felt about courses completed at two-year colleges: most said, generally, they prefer to see classes taken at four-year schools. Of course, applicants are considered by a range of criteria, but, for what it's worth, this does seem to be one criterion colleges of optometry at least somewhat employ when making their decisions.
