Hi. Hope all of your application process is going well.

Here's a thing. I don't have much dental volunteer experience ( only about 40+@ hours) and these are done in Stony Brook dental school as I attend undergrad. here. As expected from shadowing in dental school, I move around cubicles watching this and that but not much interaction with any of the dental students or dentists there. (actually I was scolded by my volunteer supervisor for answering what they asked me or for simply saying hi and introducing myself to a patient.) So I do not really think I can have a recommendation from a dentist and I really hope that wouldn't hurt my chance of getting in.

Is there any particular school that REQUIRES dentist recommendation? I heard VCU does but any other school??

Thanks in advance.

Yes most do, I don't have a list in front of me but to gain access to that information is not difficult. Just go to each school's website.

I know Ohio State requires 10 or 12 hours (I dont remember exactly) of shadowing a general practitioner. I had Shadowed multiple specialist but I got a letter that said my app. was on hold until the dentist I shadowed completed the form.

I dreaded asking the dentist I shadowed for a letter but never needed to as only 2/10 or so schools on my list required dentist letters. Those two were VCU and UNC so they are off the list haha

I have a bit of a related problem, because my LOR situation is turning out to be a big pain...so I shadowed a couple different dentists, and I asked one of them if he would be able to write me a LOR, but he basically said he would have to get back to me, and he told me that June 1st...so I may give it another day or so before I call him back or ask the other guy...since I am not certain WHO (which dentist, if any :xf:) will be writing my dentist LOR, do I need to wait until I do? Or can I submit my app with the 3 evaluators I already have, and go in and update the info about the 4th evaluator when I figure it out?

That's crappy. I would ask the other guy.

Yeah it is...annoying thing too is that he's our family dentist. I went ahead and asked the other guy already, and he agreed right off the bat, so I'm meeting with him tomorrow. Oh well!

isnt it better to just have the dentist send the letter directly to AADSAS, then every school would have the dental letter from general dentistry

correct me if i am wrong plz

TUFTS. They require at least 30 hours from a general dentist and a letter to prove it.

I had a very similar problem, so I withdrew my applications from UNLV and UW, who require it. But don't listen to the poster who said most do. I applied initially to 14, and only had to to take 2 off my list for that reason.
