What's up Fellow Pre-meds..

AMCAS app is done but I want to apply to more schools. Since I'm a CA resident I applied mainly to schools that were out-of-state-applicant-friendly. Can any of you suggest some?? Thanks.

MCAT is too low. Apply to as many schools as possible. Hopefully you will at least hear from someone.

Hey,

I got a 28 with a 3.5+ from UofChicago 5yrs ago and I didn't get in anywhere, only waitlisted again after a 3.8 in my masters. Emphasize everything you have in your favor to make up for the 26 and apply to ODs and a backup Carribean. The school I'm getting my PhD at is my safety, Tulane, but the dean of admissions used to be the director of my program and basically we have some good and bad history but I have some pretty strong assurances that I'll get into Tulane, in addition to my project becoming really important in clinical AIDS research and my boss becoming the new director of my program. Point, what shot do you have at your undergrad and is there any professor that could help? If I didn'thave Tulane and my soon-to-be-finished PhD, I would say a few OD programs and a Caribean safety. Some of the well-established Carribean schools have very very high rates of good board scores and good residency placements. I've studied in the domincan republic which is poorer than average, and cuba...politics aside, its more expensive to study in the carribean but you can get the same education down there and still apply for a Johns Hopkins residency.

PPS I knew a guy with your stats how got into UofChicago as an MD/PhD.

Just some thoughts.

Why would you apply to optometry school as a backup?

that doesn't make any sense

I think he/she means DO, not OD 🙂

Try UIC! We had a ton of Californians in my class this year.
