It looks like at my school they are not even uploading my LORs and stuff onto ERAS until sept 1st. Is that the policy or is my school just that red taped?

I would think they would upload things as they get them so things could be ready by sept 1st.

anybody else know about this?

I don't think ERAS even opens until September 1st so schools actually can't upload stuff until then anyway.

Also, I think in general schools and residency programs having gone through this madness many times before are less keenly obsessive about timelines than the individual applicants.

Most applications will NOT be complete on September 1st and I don't imagine program secretaries obsessively check ADTS every hour to see what documents are available for download.

Gosh August 31st already. I am so toast. Good luck everyone!

I did check with my program and they are not even scanning anything until next week, so deshcutes is on the money when he wrote they are not as obessive about timelines now.

I still think it would be more practical for schools to scan things into a hard drive and then they could upload directly from that instead of doing it in big batches.

My school does not upload LORs and Dean's Letters until Nov. 1!

I certainly am not "pushing the button" on Sept. 1, but I hope to do it sometime in the next few weeks.

I have an exam on Sept. 16, so probably a few days after that. Perhaps the 18th. 🙂

The hardest part of the whole thing for me was "hobbies and interests." Since it wasn't a required field, I initially left it blank. But then it shows up on the application as "hobbies and interests: none." I figured that watching TV and taking naps weren't really good things to put down.

Good luck!!

That's true!! That is definitely one of my main hobbies.

I've gotta be careful though since deschutes knows my true identity. 🙂

speaking of hobbies and naps, I am the master of the 10 minute nap

yeah, I think I need to calm down a bit with the sept 1st opening. It does not seem too important to get everything in right then. wow, LORs and deans letter on nov 1st...that seems a little late for the LORs, though it is the same with everyone for the deans leetter

I absolutely cannot do a 10 minute nap. Actually if I have less than 2 hours I don't even bother and just post on SDN or something. 🙄

me neither...i just can t be ready in time for sept 1 ....

I really dont think they are out there granting interviews as soon as they see your application i think.....

I don't think it makes a difference if you wait a couple of weeks. I wouldn't go much past the beginning of october though if you can avoid it. There is no disadvantage to submitting early.

It depends on the program when they will download your LORs. Typically, if a program downloads your application in early September, they will most likely download any letters you have uploaded as well.

There are some programs that seem to take forever to download anything. It took a month for UCSF to download my application and it took longer for UCLA and Michigan to do so.

A week or two probably doesn't make a difference. However, the advantage of applying early is this. Some programs that I applied to seemed to just reflexively offer me an interview. This is just based on no letters and a single application. It was like they were thinking, "OMFG! Somebody applied to our program! Quickly! Get that man an interview!" It helps to get interview invites early also because you have maximum flexibility in scheduling your interviews. If you apply late, you may get an interview but you will only have the opportunity to choose between a limited set of dates.

You should check out the Interviews 2005 thread to see who these programs are. Think of these programs as a positive control. If you get an interview at the program(s) in question within 24-48 hours of application submission, that means your application went through.

Hey Andy, if I recall, aren't we supposed to start the "Residency Interviews 2006" thread today?? Will you do the honors?

The person who gets the first interview invite gets to do the honours! 😉

But who am I kidding, the honour usually goes to whoever feels like making a new thread.

I tried to do a 2-hour nap yesterday and ended up waking up this morning. Sorry to all those of you who emailed me.

Gawd I need a weekend.

Well, you know mine too so we can call it quits 😀

Besides, as a lowly R1, I have less leverage than you think!

Make up some hobbies. You have a life outside of medicine. 😎
