Schools with >10k applicants?

I ended up in the on-hold/soft rejection pile at GWU. I have a 3.75/37, although my application is a little weird because I'm nontraditional - no research, very difficult time tracking down LORs. Their stats are lower than a lot of the other schools I applied to and so I'm freaking out that this cycle is a complete loss for me.

I know that the issue with GWU, along with BU, Georgetown, RFU, Tufts, NYMC, Jefferson and Temple, is the relatively large numbers of applicants.

Has anyone gotten into a school that's more competitive in terms of stats, and had no luck with these 10k applicant schools? I'm not believing that my stats are too competitive, I am pretty sure that's been debunked before.

Being on-hold doesn't necessarily mean that you've been rejected, and it certainly doesn't mean this cycle is a complete loss; it's only JULY!

GWU puts almost everybody on hold. I got put on hold early and ended up with an II later in the cycle (got rejected after though). I'm pretty sure a lot of schools do this, it's just that some are more open about it than others.

You've got to be kidding me. We haven't even hit August yet-- many people put on hold will get invities. Relax

You're totally fine. These schools which get tons of applicants have a very specific idea of what they want in an applicant. Also, keep in mind that some schools (GWU being one of them) seem to screen out those with really high stats (such as yourself) because they think those people won't attend if offered acceptance. At least this is what I've heard (please someone correct me if I'm wrong!), but also the people in last year's threads who were offered the earliest interviews at GWU were the ones with lower stats.

Yeah GWU has some lower stats. Averages in 3.6-3.5 range.

I'm in the same situation application wise, although I decided not to apply to GWU because of the large number of applications they receive. I'm also worried about schools similar to GWU though, because I am planning to apply to BU, Georgetown, Tufts, and NYMC....

Yes. Unless you express an explicit interest in the school, they're going to assume you're off to bigger and better places, so why bother interview you?

Did I make a mistake in applying to almost all mid/low tiers then? I have a 3.6/34 which, after reading SDN all these years, I believe is pretty cookie cutter so I only applied to about 10 usnews ranked schools, only 1 of which is in the top 20. The rest (about 25) were all unranked

You'll be fine at mid-tiers. Not all schools have this philosophy, but a lot of them do if you're applying too far out of your range.

Your GPA is average and your MCAT score is only ~1-3 points above average at most mid-tier places. You could have throw some pie-in-the-sky type schools in there but applying mostly mid tier (30-60) sounds about right.

Yeah, I know it's early in the cycle but I'm just nervous about my application being reviewed and put aside. Good to know that I could potentially get an II later on in the cycle.

I am not being insulting towards GWU or non-top 20 schools at all, but I was also nervous that a school with an average GPA/MCAT on the lower side had "rejected" me. Then do I even have a chance at the UCs, or a mid-tier like USC or Rochester?

Regarding being "overqualified", I thought that was a myth?
