My friend told me that certain schools wouldn't interview her without fulfilling the anatomy prereq first.

I'm applying to AZ, Midwestern-AZ, and Midwestern-IL and those schools require Anatomy. I planned on taking Anatomy right before class begins if I get in and decide to go there. Otherwise, I have no way of fitting the class in.

Am I wasting my money by applying there if I dont have that prereq? I'm going to call today to make sure.

Call the program and ask...

+1.

Can't speak about any of these schools, but when I applied I was lacking certain prereqs (second term of intro bio, no anatomy, no micro) and still got interviews at schools that said online that the prereqs were absolutely necessary in order to be considered. I doubt that they would totally write you off just because you didn't take anatomy. But Regmata is totally right: just call the program. You don't want to waste your time and money

its aactually u have to finish the pre reqs before you start dental school classes in the fall, not to get interviewed. just as long as u finish it by the first day of class (whether u take summer classes or w/e) ur good.

I know for sure that Midwestern-AZ WILL NOT exclude you from an interview if you haven't yet completed all of the prereqs. If you do get accepted there, your acceptance will be conditional on completing anatomy with a C or better.

MWU-AZ said they've had a problem with people interviewing/gaining acceptance and saying they would fulfill pre-reqs and then coming to them at the last minute and hoping to have them waived. They warned against even thinking you can get away with it. Of course you can interview and get accepted without all of them fulfilled, but I imagine if you have several unfulfilled pre-reqs that may cause concern.

While you are correct for the majority of programs out there, you may not be correct for all. Unless you are privy to some information that the rest of us are not. Furthermore, while the written policy may be that the courses must only be finished by matriculation, an unwritten rule may be in effect.

This is a simple problem, with a simple solution and only 1 way to get yourself the most reliable answer...call the program. SDN is a great resource, but there are a lot of people on here giving advice that have no idea what they are talking about. Albeit, most have the best of intentions...but you should be careful listening to advice on an anonymous web forum.

i wonder what the point is of using SDN then if everyone was going to just do everything on their own anyway, right? it's a forum for people asking for help, and people giving help. when a majority say it is, it probably is. but u can go ahead and do what most of us have already done and call in to find out we were right in the beginning.

Basically you are right. One needs to ALWAYS call the school to get the word straight from the horses mouth. For ops questions the answer is here b/c many of us have applied to those schools and received interviews. They might be lenient on not taking one pre-req such as A&p or may be missing only one micro or biochem but not all of them.

Before applying just to represent yourself fully one should always finish the basic requirements such as orgo, bio, chem, phy. & dat to be able to be compared to other applicants.

PS buy the adea book they have all the secret tel. #'s for schools which some of them are not listed on their website. Sometimes they even get surprised how i got their number.

I got into Midwestern without having anatomy complete. I just put it on my planned coursework, and I just finished it.

what about an english pre req?
most schools i know require 2 semesters of english..ive only taken 1 and plan on taking the other one my senior year. ive gotten all my other pre reqs done.. but should i be worried about the english?

You're fine. You're planning to take it and I think it's the last thing they're worried about in the list of pre-reqs.

A buddy of mine got in without having Anatomy. They just requested that he have it before fall 2011.
