Hello Guys,

I am currently a third year student in Canada studying for Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences. I have approximately 3 more semesters left until graduation. I am also planning on taking the MCAT immediately after graduation since I want to focus solely on my MCAT. I am hoping to attend a US DO school in the future.

Currently my cumulative GPA is 3.4 and my science GPA is approx. 2.9. I am hoping to increase both my science and cumulative GPA in the next few semesters. I took most of my science courses during my first year of school and got one C+ and one C- in a chemistry and physics class respectively. I was debating whether I should retake those classes to increase my science GPA or should I take more science courses to bump it up? I think I should definately retake the C- I got in physics. What do you guys think?

I'd really appreciate your help guys 🙂

Retake. It'll help you for mcat prep as well as boost your gpa.

retake.

If you retake you are replacing a C- entirely with a new grade (hopefully an A)

If you take a new course you'd see a GPA boost but it only balances out the C- that you have on the transcript. Plus, you won't likely do as well as you would in a new course than in a retake.

It may seem like a bit of a waste of money cause you wouldn't be learning anything new, but its worth it for the improvement in your application + the MCAT prep that it gives you.

Retaking helps your GPA more.

I was in a similar boat(my school has BCs) but I have about 3 semesters left too and since I am not a science major I only had four or five science classes. I took 2nd semester intro bio with an A last semester and got it to a 3.0, taking immuno and microbio this coming semester and think I can do the same now that I have my study habits down. I would say retake the C- and take one or two more bio classes to raise it over a 3.0, so far worked for me raising the sGPA.
