If one has a really good science gpa (lets say 3.5>) and an ok, but not so great total gpa (3.0-3.2), would most schools not accept you because your total GPA is so low, or do they really just focus on your science gpa. I know it depends on the school your applying to, but lets just talk about it in general.

For those of you who are asking "What about dat scores" lets say an average of 20.

"Let's say"
At least you have to meet their minimum competitive oGPA and sGPA. However, sGPA is more important than oGPA.
For GPA alone, BCP>sGPA>oGPA.
"Let's say" 😀 you don't meet their minimum GPAs, then you have to make it up by higher DAT required.
There are lots of factors they look at in your application:
GPAs
DAT
LORs
Personal Statement
Volunteering/Shadowing experiences
Extracurricular Activities
Course load
blah blah blah
Wait, wait, and wait. 😴
After reviewing your file, if they like you, then you will receive an interview invitation to their ds. Then:
Accepted 😍, waitlisted 😉, rejected 😳.

Because the question is soooo general... the only way to answer it is by......speculation

science GPA is more important criteria for admissions than overall GPA (GENERALLY SPEAKING). However, they shouldn't be THAT far apart. I believe that if your sGPA is 3.5+ and ur overall is 3.0-3.2, then you should be okay..... Im totally basing this on opinion alone, and not real facts

Its actually not that cut and dry. I have/had an excellend science GPA (3.94) but a relatively low overall GPA (3.45) due to a set of circumstances that i do not wish to venture into.

However, at some interviews i was told - amazing gpa/good job/impressive -

At others I was told - thats a bit low/what happened there/can you explain this -

It really just depends on the schools 🙁

When interviewers are asking you about bad grades is the gig up? I mean is that a strong indication you're not going to be accepted? What was your experience JBH?

At one of my interviews.... My bad grades from past weren't asked.... I was ATTACKED lol.... I am not kidding here is how it went:

-"so... you got a D in ethics, whats the deal with that"
*mind you, this was from 2001*.... spent 5 minutes sounding like a idiot about how careless I was in school in my early 20s blah blah blah.... It wasn't a great explanation, but it was truth

-"How about this C- you got in history...come on thats an easy class"
*in my head* "ARE YOU F-ING KIDDING ME"..... so, spend the next 5-10 minutes, again, sounding like an idiot, talking about my early 20s.... yep pretty much same explanation as before

-"hmm, it seems to me you were a solid math student until ur last sememster, you have a bunch of C's and 1 D in math courses, what happen"
*in my head* "This is not happening, this is a dream, calm down".... yep same explanation as before, but of course different wordings.

This school accepted me Dec 1st 9:30 AM... It was actually my number 1 choice 🙂

Oh man... that would be difficult to sit through without showing frustration... i'm sure my interviews will be simular lol. Good job maintaining your cool and getting in.

It's definitely encouraging to know that you're still a candidate if you get invited to the interview, even with the bad grades. As long as you keep your cool and answer the questions honestly and eloquently, I'm assuming. I mean, it makes sense. They wouldn't interview someone who would be a waste of their time.

Great job keeping your cool on that one! 👍

I can totally relate to you, but I dug my own hole TWO times.

Interviewer: So tell me why you have 2 W, 2C, 1 D, 1 A in Physics Level A/B?

Beats: (I hate physics) Well, I didn't think the material was relevant towards my major (Biology). I mean torque, friction, coefficients, ugh seriously, I really didn't care. However, I -cutoff-

Interviewer: YOU DON'T THINK PHYSICS IS RELEVANT? *LAUGHS*

Beats: (oh **** oh **** commence backpedaling) No no, I meant when I was an immature student I didn't care about the subject matter!!! But there's a reason why it's a required course for pre-dental admission! I definately learned my lesson AND that's why I got an A in my last semester of physics!!!:scared:

Result: Accepted

Whew -_-

Next school:

The interview at a UC school was nothing like a typical interview. It was just talk about life and NOTHING on my academic history. Towards the end of the interview, commence my stupidity:

Beats: Wow, this interview was very different but in a good refreshing way.

Interviewer: Well, we know that your resume is good enough for the program. We just want to see if you are good fit for the school.

Beats: Well thats a great philosophy, every other school asks about grades etc.

Interviewer: *turns dead serious* TELL ME ABOUT YOUR D. (keep in mind, we had done NO talking about grades or school, so talk about getting caught off guard)

Beats: I uh *oh crap*, I can uh definitely explain that.

Interviewer: Na, I'm jk. Physics was also my hardest subject.

Result: Accepted 😛
