Does the sGPA only count the hard sciences like bio, chem, physics?

I'm a kinesiology major and most of my courses count as science courses in my school... would those count?

I'm Canadian

Thank you so much for your reply...as silly as I am, I only skimmed through the instructions like 4 months ago and didn't bother checking again...I listed my courses based on the course codes in my school, not the ones suggested here...

I'm a goof

Looks like AMCAS changes it for you though

OK, I'm confused again.. I'm a kinesiology major and I took Anatomy and Physiology courses under a kinesiology course code... should I list those as HEAL or as BIOL ... I hope this isn't a dumb question..

Kinesiology is listed under HEAL but I guess that means ALL my kine courses should be HEAL?

If there's another A&P course that's offered in your sciences school (e.g., a class bio or nursing majors have to take) then you shouldn't list it as BIOL. If there isn't, then I guess you can have your pick. Either way AMCAS will correct everything once you submit.

yea those are the course Bio and Nurs students would have to take so I guess I'll list it under BIOL... what about Biomechanics? it's not listed in any AMCAS categories.. should I just list it as HEAL?

It's pretty straight forward, if the course is offered through the biology, chemistry, physics or mathematics departments they are science class.

Ex: biology I and II could be called BIO112 and BIO113
Genetics could be called- BIO312
and Biochemistry -BIO400

if your kinesiology classes have the same prefix as your biology classes then they are science classes. They probably aren't, though.

I was thinking that... but then I reasoned with ColeonRoll's comment about the courses not being offered under a bio course code

and he/she is saying the same thing. Regardless of the course title, it depends on what department offers the course. If you stick with that you should be all set.

for example, I plan to take a course called radiation biology. It is offered through the physics department and has the appropriate prefix to denote that ( PHY- whatever). Even though it may be a "biology-type course" the department it is offered by and the prefix determines which category it falls under.

Given that you are not from the US, I doubt they're going to nail you on HEALTH vs BIO. They'll understand. I would even go so far as to say that you should decide depending on the grades you got 😉

arjun, that's why I'm asking hehehe...would be nice to get good grades added to my sGPA

Danny, now that I think about it, I'll just put them under the department that offers it

Thanks

Agree with this. I had some neurobio/psychobio classes offered through the psychology department that I did well on, and tried labeling them as BIO classes (even though it was pretty borderline behavioral/social science) and got away with it. If you have something blatantly wrong, they'll change it for you.

sml5t, now you're tempting me... I think I'll try it out and hopefully, it doesn't hurt me

thanks

does geology count as a science class?
