Ok...on your app to DO school...we/they separate science and non-science...and you have a respective GPA for each.

I am a non-trad that is retaking classes to 'fix' my previous crummy GPA. I am focusing exclusively on science re-takes...in order to boost my cum. above 3.0. As a non-trad with limited time I don't really have the time to re-take my non-science...and honestly don't think I could handle sitting through more 'waste of time' classes where I am forced to discuss how a poem 'makes me feel.'

My understanding was that your science GPA was the primary focus of ADCOMs and non-science isn't as valued.

Am I correct...or am I on crack?

PNUHS inaugural class is my goal! Hopefully a 3.1 and somewhere under 30 will land me a seat...keeping the faith!

They have a GPA for your PRE-REQ courses, then the GPA in your major, then overall as is my understanding. The PRE-REQ ones are the most important.

someone correct me if im wrong

That is how I understand it as well. With limited time to take classes, I would focus on my science prereqs as well. Then apply with the science GPA a bit higher. If you don't get in (and I hope you do get in) you will have more time to take those crap classes and boast the other GPA. I would focus only on science now though. A 3.1 science GPA would be fine to apply, I think it is a little lower then average but is more then acceptable. Good luck!

Hey...thanks for the replies...but please clafiy something for me.

I can understand how they differentiate science vs. non science...BUT...how can they know what courses were a part of my major? How could they separate these out?

This sounds like it would make sense...but there isn't really any way for them to differentiate anything other than sci v non.

As there is no mechanism to list; 'major courses'...'non major courses'...'misc non-applicable to med school sciences'...it would seem incorrect that 'they' could separate out these courses and their respective grades.

I can understand that maybe at an interview that an ADCOM could ask you specifically about coursework...but it would seem impossible for these things to be sorted out prior.

Anyone able to chime in on this one?

i think your school will sort this out on your transcript when you send them.
