Is there any consensus related to how much improvement one can reasonably expect in a 3 week time period? I haven't taken an NBME yet and I plan to take NBME 7 at 3 weeks out. I'm worried that scoring really low will psych me out and throw off my motivation to study. I think it might help if I know how much improvement I can reasonably expect during the remainder of my studying. Thanks.

I improved >25 points from first NBME to my second one ten days later. Though I had done >50% of UWorld, I had not really opened FA at that point and thus there were many easy points that were left on the table because of complete unfamiliarity with Step 1 relevant anatomy, micro, biochem, etc. If you're just cracking FA, you might expect similarly impressive gains.

If you've made at least one complete pass through FA and have done most of UW, you can expect smaller gains. How much smaller depends on how close you are to your peak.

EDIT: I should also add that I focused especially on weaknesses identified by the NBME in those ten days. For me, that was MSK, biochem, embryo and anatomy, etc. If you have a few especially weak areas and hit those hard, you can obviously expect your score to increase a bit more.
