Scored 18 points below average on a test worth 20%

Grading can be quite variable, so it all depends on whether or not the class is curved and how many total points possible remain. Take a look at your syllabus and see if it is possible, then study til you pass out 😀

Oh yeah, it's a big (200 or so) curved biology class. Grading isn't even mentioned on the syllabus so I'm assuming it's like every other bio class.

Yeah, you just have to work a little harder. Reevaluate your study habits and find out what worked vs. what didn't. The best advice I could give you is to study the material for 1 hour every day rather than cramming at the last minute. You'll retain the information more effectively.

Depends if you can score above average from now on. I mean if you've got 3 tests + a final or paper then you can easily pull out with a B as long as you put in the effort.

B isn't too hard to get (depending on what class you are on). If you are considering dropping the course, you should calculate what you need to get on the remaining tests, projects, and the final. If it is something you don't think you can achieve, then drop the course.

None of us know what you got on your test, so we cannot give you any more advice other than that.

I pulled something like that on a physics III midterm worth 30% of my grade.

I freaked the crap out, studied and knew absolutely everything for the final and got 100% on it and ended the class with an A+ because the average was so low.

If the average is pretty high, then the lower your chances are of pulling your grade up because something like a 95% on the final wouldn't make much of a difference if the average is around 80%. However, if your class averages are going to fall somewhere in the 50-60% range, you could probably pull the A if you get 85+% on the final because you are THAT much higher than the majority of the students.

Did someone seriously create a thread about this? And you guys are actually responding to this type of question? Wow.

The cake, this thread takes it.

Bump -- any last tips?

If you have legit ADHD, you may be able to get extra time to complete exams, which might help. Besides that, carefully evaluate why you did poorly. Oh, and get to know the professor. Let them see how hard you are working to improve.
