i am unfamiliar with the scoring of this test. what is the lowest and highest score possible on this test for steps 1,2,3? i know that 75 is passing

I am only familiar with Step 1. That said, I don't know what the absolute lowest or highest scores are, or how these scores are calculated. It's pretty cryptic.

There's a 3-digit score and a 2-digit score. The passing 3-digit score is 185, national average is around 217, sd=20 (approximately). I've heard of scores in the 280's, but I think they are very rare. To me, anything above 260 is insanely high.

The 2-digit score is not a percentage correct or a percentile. All I know is that it's set to where 75 is a passing score, and it maxes out at 99.

This is correct. Since it is statistical, there is no set high or low score.

I remember reading that in the 2-digit score, that 1 point = 1 standard error of the mean (SEM).

General numbers...

<200 = trouble unless you want to go into something non-competitive
200-220 = decent
220-230 = good
230-240 = very competitve for mod competitive fields (EM, Anesthesia, Surg)
240+ = in the setting of an otherwise good app can expect interviews in any field

Obviously this all shifts around based on personal goals.
