I just got a "letter of intent" for an offer from a transitional year program, but it is not in the same city where my anesthesia program is. If I sign this "letter of intent", can I change my mind if another TY program offers me a position tomorrow?

Thanks for your advices!

does it look like a legal contract? you mention that you have to sign it... it may be binding in that case.

I am not sure whether it is a legal contract. It says:

Dear Dr. xxx:

This letter is to offer you a transitional year Residency position at xxx hospital for the academic year of July 1, 2004 through June 30, 2005.

Please sign below upon acceptanc of this position. Please return by fax to ....

Then follows:

I accept this offer of a transitional year residency position at xxx Hospital for the academic year ......

That SOUNDS binding. Can you hold onto it so you can contact/wait on programs tomorrow? Or do you have to respond immediatly? First come first served?
