I recently talked to a rad resident who told me that he wanted to get into another ultracompetetive specialty but didn't match so he scrambled and got a rads position!!! Is this possible? What are the chances? How many spots are open after the match? thanks for your input!!! 😀 😀 😀 😳

Well, according to NBME statistics that were just released, there are 36 radiology spots that went unmatched for this year. So I guess it is possible. Good luck!

unless i'm reading ytour post wrong, it looks like there were 6 total positions unfilled, not 36. am i mistaken?

There were 17 last year, most of them concentrated in a couple of programs, no spots in remarkably desirable locations or programs.

I think in general these spots are taken very fast. As goes for most competitive specialties.
I heard that there was 1 ortho unmatched spot in our program couple years back. They got like 50 faxes the first day. Craziness.
