Is it possible to match a PGY1 position without scrambling if you don't match into an advanced program?
Eg: If I rank for example Rads 1-10 and I don't match then I never had a chance to match my supplemental lists, and I would be stuck trying to scramble PGY1 and PGY2. But, if I rank Rads 1-10 and then tack prelims into slots 11-20 will I still have a chance to scramble into an advanced spot? My inclination is "no" since this would be your "primary list" and on March 11 you would simply be told "you have matched" to be very disappointed on March 15 when you matched at academic prelim #14, and never had the opportunity to scramble for your PGY2 spot.
Anyone have any insight on this? It seems like if you don't match your advanced position you are stuck scrambling for both radiology and a PGY1 year. Just something that came up as I was making my lists that I was curious about.
