Is writing on your scrap paper during the 10 minute timed tutorial allowed? I've heard some mixed things on this. I like to write some basic equations and units to make thinking through certain problems a bit easier and quicker.

If so, how many of you do this? Do you find it helpful, or distracting?

It is definitely allowed. I checked with the AAMC to verify this.

It is definitely helpful. Before the test started the equations were easily accessible in my head. Once it had begun, the stress made everything cloudy for a bit, so writing them out before helped refocus me.

Also how many pieces of scrap paper are we allowed to get? And can we bring our own sound canceling ear plugs?

At my testing center we were issued "official" scrap paper and if we ran out, we could ask for more (but it was plenty, 5-6 sheets).

You can bring ear plugs that aren't connected by wires. They will be inspected before you can use them. In the official materials it says the earplugs must still be in their original sealed contained, but at my test site the proctors said they didn't care as they will inspect them either way.

I used my 10 minutes of tutorial to write out the time table I've used for all practice FLs and about what question I should be on at that time, since running out of time (mainly on PS) is sometimes an issue for me.

don't really want to start a thread for this, but does anyone know if we can use noise reduction headphone/ear muff (the ones w/out wire)? ear plugs are so uncomfortable to wear and they aren't really sound proff at all....

The testing center is supposed to provide the earmuff type sound reducing headphones.

They are pretty uncomfortable over glasses, but the soundproofing was good.
