What do you all use to clean your laptop screens. I'm somewhat baffled as to how my screen keeps getting so dirty and it desperately needs cleaning. Not sure if it matters but I'm using an iBook G4, pre-glossy display days.

I use...screen wipes.

That's what they're called. They're pre-moistened, nonabrasive towelettes in a canister, sort of like baby wipes. These came from an office supply store. I'm sure you can find them just about anywhere.

I despise the wipes that come marketed as screen wipes (All of the ones I have had are nothing but watered down rubbing alcohol, and it leaves streaks like nothing else!) I keep a package of windex wipes with my laptop and they work great!

You can make your own LCD cleaning solution by diluting isopropyl alcohol with distilled water (50% isopropyl alcohol solution). Use this on any ol' soft cloth (like a T-shirt) and then use the cloth to gently wipe the screen.

I'd swap the t-shirt for a lens cloth.

i scratch the specks of spaghetti sauce off my screen with my fingernail, i think we have different cleanliness standards

though if someone knew a way to get all the GD dust out from my keyboard..., like, all of it, i'm done messing around with those air spray things

I used to experiemnt with different formulas of rubbing alcohol to figure out why the heck it streaked so badly. I found that the higher the % of alcohol, the more streak free it got. Sometimes i'm lazy though and dig out the Endust for Electronics which is somehow always dust free.

I use the alcohol on the TV screen, LCD, laptop screen my blackberry....basically any electronic i own that gathers dust. No probs so far. Lens cloth (IMHO) is kinda overrated. I don't think you really can scratch your LCD screen with tissue/paper towel. You might run into trouble for glasses or something -- but the LCDs are pretty durable. Been cleaning my laptop like this for 4 years without a hitch.

I'd agree that it is unlikely to scratch the LCD, but a good lens cloth is free of lint, which can't be said for paper towels. Either way, they only cost a few bucks and last years.
