I had a question with regard to the expectations of minimum availability when it comes to being hired for a medical scribe position pertaining to casual flexibility. I filled out an application for a scribe position last week and one question in the application asked for flexibility for scheduling; ie full-time status with 4-5 shifts a week, part-time status with 2-3 shifts a week, or casual status for up to 5 shifts a month, which were listed as options. When I completed my application, I had listed my availability as being open to working on a casual basis, as I otherwise currently am working full-time and going to start doing post-bacc classes part-time this summer. I got an interview invite later in the week. My question for anyone that's ever been scheduled on a casual basis for working a few shifts a month, how were your shifts spread out? I wasn't able to find much information on this as it otherwise seemed like most medical scribe programs looked for applicants that could be available to work on a full-time or part-time basis.

What company are you working for? The shift policies will vary greatly by company.

How about you call and ask?

The position is through a company based in Minnesota called EPPA (Emergency Physicians Professional Association). In going through their website, not much information was provided on how they schedule shifts by month on a a casual basis and I was curious to see if anyone had experience working a few shifts a month as a scribe with other responsibilities to manage on the side.

I do indeed plan to call to find out more about what scheduling may be like through them. I was otherwise curious to hear about the personal accounts of others on how scheduling was managed if shifts were scheduled on a by-month rather than a by-week basis.

I work for a company that schedules shifts by the month. So we give our availability about midway through the month for the next month and then the entire months schedule is planned out ahead of time. We do all of the scheduling online and there is a way where you can trade shifts with people if something unexpected comes up. But this is just for where I work, it might be completely different for you depending on what company you are with.
