Hey everyone,

If anybody is a scribe for ScribeAmerica could you answer a few questions for me?
I was recently offered an interview to be a scribe and I wanted to know what the interview was like. I was given a list of medical terms and am not sure if I will be held responsible for all of them for my interview? Also what is the ideal typing speed? Do they look at typing technique because i can get between 60-70 WPM consistently but my technique is not the greatest...

Any information that can be provided would be appreciated.

At my interview the typing test was literally the first google result for "typing test", they even let me pick the passage I wanted to do. They don't care about technique, just that your wpm is above 50 or so. You'll get separate training before being tested on the medical terms.

In my interview I was randomly tested on a term and missed it (freaking ecchymosis) but still got hired. I doubt it holds much weight at that point. Otherwise it was a standard interview. Practice a typing test a little before your interview and you should be fine.

My typing test was all numbers? So be prepared for that possibility...

I used to work for SA and traveled a bit for the company. Ideally, your typing speed should be around 50-60 wpm. Some sites prefer that scribes be able to type around 60-80 wpm depending on the volume of patients being seen. If you're hitting anywhere between 30-40 wpm, then work on getting your speed up as fast as possible pre-interview. Typing is the ultimate deal breaker. A lot of sites need scribes to be fast ASAP, and while this is an area in which you can improve, the training timeline may not allow this.

Memorize the vocabulary. You could be assessed in any way. I know I used to give a written quiz during interviews. I wouldn't underestimate any aspect of the interview process, especially if you're in an area that has a lot of great potential applicants.

Good luck!
