Hi,

I was just wondering whether scribekick virtual scribing is looked at any differently in the application process than in-person scribing.

Thanks!

Of course.

edit: scribing remotely takes away a lot of the value of the scribing experience for premeds which is to be in a medical environment, seeing how medical staff interact to serve patients, and to learn about the work that doctors do. If scribing remotely helps you gain experience to scribe in person then go for it. But I wouldn’t rely on it to fill in for clinical hours or patient contact.

Can’t speak on behalf of AdComs but I would assume it’s looked at differently. You don’t see anyone in person. I can’t imagine there’s the same team building / team work involved. I think at the end of the day, scribing is good experience mostly because it’s helps you understand what the job is and you get to work alongside people in a clinical setting, neither of which you truly get in virtual scribing. Now I would say that I don’t really know whether you’re required to input in the application whether the scribing you did was virtual or not, although I would imagine that you’ll have to share your experience during the interview. At the end of the day, if you like what you’re doing and you’re learning something, just do it. If not or if there’s something else you’d rather pursue, do that.
