Hey,

Sorry, I posted this on another thread, but didn't a response. Any help would be much appreciated! 🙂 Has anyone here gone through the Scripps program? I'm seriously considering it, and I have a few questions about it for anyone that is/was attending it.

1. Is it hard to finish all the pre-reqs in one year? The courseload seems pretty intense...how can you balance your time with ECs/research?
2. How difficult are the courses themselves? Is it hard to get a good gpa?
3. Do most people from the program get into the med schools they want to go to? Do they have a good record of sending students to UCs? (UC schools are my first choice)

Thanks for any help!

i didn't go into the scripps program but i did go to their open house, where the advisor gave us a great deal of information. i also know someone who is currently in the scripps post-bac. i get the impression that while their courseload is extremely intense, and students there spend all their time studying, the professors and advisors are very involved and willing to help students. they have tutors, office hours, and a lot of guidance from the counseler. 100% student acceptance into med schools is a good number to me!

the best way to get your questions answered is probably just to call the head of the program at scripps.

I graduated from Scripps Post-Bacc in 2001. I am about to graduate from a top 10 med school. Several of my classmates were accepted to UC schools. It's a great program...expensive yes, but some of the best faculty support I've ever had.

Can't go wrong with Scripps. That being said if you don't do well on the MCAT etc, of course it'll be challenging to get in a UC school. But that's obvious 🙂

Good luck! Again I can't say enough about that program...

Alright, now I'm upset. I've been posting this same request for info on Scripps and bumping it almost every month since September of 2005:

http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=228468

This guy posts it and gets an immediate response from someone whose actually been in the program. No love. 😛

Thanks for the info Baylor. I applied for 2006, and am keeping my fingers crossed. I haven't gotten a response back yet. How's the weather in Claremont anyway? Nice and sunny like L.A. ?

Yes I saw your other post yesterday Mr. Adventure. I usually don't frequent the forums much as you can tell by my join date and my post #s. I figured you would catch this thread and get your answers.

Weather in Claremont is great! May be more smog than West LA because it blows inland, but when it clears... 😍 I miss Socal a lot because of that weather.

Good luck with your application...I know it's challenging. The first of many steps to the MD.

its not as nice as west LA (since claremont borders san bernardino county) so its hotter in the summer and colder in the winter...not by alot but enough that you'll notice (went to UCLA for UG, from claremont)

Sweeet. Even if it's not perfect SoCal weather all the time, it'll be much better than cold and gloomy Blatimore. I have a Mustang GT convertible waiting for me back in the states... 😎

lol yes, definitely better than east coast weather

I am in the Scripps program now and it is *definitely* very intense. Most of us are feeling overwhelmed right now, and pretty screwed time-wise. About a quarter of the postbacc class dropped down to part-time! They will be taking two years to complete the requirements.
All that said, the program is great and the support system is incredible...I don't regret coming here at all, I only wish there were more hours in the day!!

btw I chose scripps over bryn mawr and johns hopkins

how competitive is it to get into the program? I was thinking about the program but I dont think my gpa would make it.
thanks

If it's not too personal, would you mind posting your stats? (i.e. GPA, ACT/SAT/GRE, and background) I'm in the shute for next Fall pending the outcome of the paper-based GRE I took recently...

My cum. gpa was 2.6 at UCR, major 2.7. I have a 3.6 and 3.8 at two other JC. I dont remember my SAT and ACT score because it was like 8 years ago. I was a volunteer for the American Red Cross, and was an active member of my organization in college. That is a brief overview of my stats. Thanks for any help or advice you can provide me.

Thanks 😀

i go to the claremont colleges - it's an amazing program. the joint science facility is excellent; classes are tough, demanding, but you get all the support you need.

when i was talking with jodi @ submitting my app- she said to not bother because my SAT was 1110 even though i have a 3.6 at emory, excellent recs, and am a pharmaceutical rep- is this typical? she said the committee wouldnt even look at the app if it didnt have sat much higher- seemed so strange!

thats what i thought! I never thought my SAT would hold me up for something almost ten years later- i guess it goes to show how incremental succeeding w/MCAT scores and these classes are to get into med school!

man thats a little depressing.

You're not dead in the water yet guys: if you sucked on the SAT/ACT, take the GRE and study your butt off for it. These schools will take your GRE score in lieu of your SAT/ACT score. I got a sh*tty ACT score, but studied like a maniac for the GRE. I think I did pretty good, but since it was paper based, I have to wait a few to get the scores. (Finger's crossed...)

Hey there Scripps post bac alumni!

Im looking at Goucher and Scripps--do you think that being in california at scripps helped other students get into a UC (which is where I want to go?)

May I ask what made you choose Scripps over the others?
